New Preston recruit Jon Parkin admitted he was pleasantly surprised to feature in Saturday's 2-1 win against Charlton.The 14-stone striker was signed on an emergency loan from Stoke on Friday and made a significant contribution against the Addicks.

Parkin said: "I only met the other players in the dressing room before the game.

"We were trying to rush it through and I thought there was a chance of me being involved somewhere, so it was a pleasant surprise to play.

"I was in Middlesbrough when I got the call at 7 o'clock and I came down here."
