Gary Moore's Mr Napoleon sailed away from his rivals to register a length-and-a-half victory upped in trip in the Baker Tilly Handicap at Lingfield.
The 9-1 chance had been off the track since March but was not lacking race-fitness as he charged down the centre of the course to ensure Vinces waved the white flag and settled for second.
Moore said: "He came to me and did what he did so I gave him a break. He went off to his owners and then came back fresh and well.
"The good gallop made all the difference to him and helped him out a lot.
"He is good enough to win at a mile and quarter or a mile and a half, but I always thought he would be a better horse when he went a mile and a half."
