Tottenham Hotspur have signed Russia striker Roman Pavlyuchenko from Spartak Moscow on a five-year deal and Croatian defender Vedran Corluka from Manchester City.

The club told the Stock Exchange they had signed the 26-year-old Russian for £14 million and confirmed on their website the arrival of 22-year-old Corluka for a fee believed to be £8.5m.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Vedran Corluka to the club," Spurs said in a statement.

Corluka, who has been capped 24 times by Croatia, won successive titles with Dynamo in 2006 and 2007.

He left for the Premier League and Manchester City in August 2007, where he featured at right-back, centre-back and in midfield, making 41 appearances in all competitions.

Corluka said: "I am delighted to be here because I am coming to a big club with great players, great ambition and also my best friend (Luka Modric) is here so it is a very happy day for me."

Pavlyuchenko, who has been capped 22 times by Russia, was their top scorer at Euro 2008, with three goals.

Pavlyuchenko joined Spartak Moscow in 2003 and went on to become the leading striker in Russia's Premier League in 2006 and 2007.

  1. Football is a confidence game at the level our clubs play, if you were a new spurs player you would have been a little worried playing Chelsea at the Bridge, but the guys did just fine..Man city with all that dosh! you know the top four will be worried, but the players below will be thinking "we can do this!" and you know I think it may change things!

  3. tsk tsk such negativity from uneducated fans. corluka will fit in nicely and link up with modric. pavyluchenko will be a legend at the lane. look at keane now he has gone, a pale image of the striker he was at spurs. out of position and bypassed by players looking for torres. spurs style suits decent strikers and makes them look better than they are at other clubs.

Milan Baros top euro scorer but is hopeless
Miroslav Klose world cup top scorer but looked so hopeless.
