Jamaican triple Olympic and world champion Usain Bolt will race in the 200 metres at the IAAF world athletics final in Thessaloniki, Greece, on September 13.

The race is an addition to Bolt's European schedule, which was to end with a 200 metres in Brussels on Friday.

The 23-year-old, who shattered his 100 and 200 metres world records at the Berlin world championships, will end his season with 100 metres races in Shanghai on September 20 and Daegu, South Korea, on September 25.

Meanwhile, American sprinter Tyson Gay revealed he is set to have surgery on a groin injury after cruising to 100m victory in the British Grand Prix in Gateshead.

Gay won in 10.15secs despite a headwind of two metres per second as he returned to the track after his second place finish behind world record-setting Jamaican Usain Bolt at the recent World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

"I'm looking forward to Brussels on Friday and maybe one more race and then I'll have surgery," said Gay, who clocked the third-fastest time in history behind Bolt in the German capital.

"I feel grateful for my second place in Berlin. I ran a great time - it just was not fast enough. I was running on one leg, so once I have surgery I will be running faster."
