Swansea have rejected a new offer from Wigan for Dutch midfielder Ferrie Bodde, and signed rinidad & Tobago defender Radanfah Abu Bakr on a short-term deal.
The combative 27-year-old, who is nearing full fitness following a knee injury, was the subject of a bid from the Latics a fortnight ago, with Roberto Martinez eager to be reunited with the player he took to the Liberty Stadium two years ago.
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins told the club's official website: "The terms of the payment have improved, but our stance on Ferrie remains the same and the offer has been rejected."
He added: "Ferrie is edging closer to full fitness and we are all looking forward to seeing him pulling on a Swansea shirt again and bolstering Paulo Sousa's squad."
Bodde was one of Martinez's first signings for Swansea, joining from ADO Den Haag for just £80,000. Martinez has already returned to Swansea to sign striker Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez, who was on loan with the Welsh club last season.
Abu Bakr has had two trials with the Swans in the last two years and signed a three-month deal after being granted a work permit.
The 22-year-old centre-back who has five international caps, told the club's official website: "I am absolutely ecstatic to get my chance here and can't wait to get going.
"The move happened quite quickly but I'm really looking forward to the challenge."
The former Caledonia AIA man is determined to convince Swans boss Paulo Sousa he is worthy of a contract extension to run beyond the initial three months.
