Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has pledged his future to the club and vowed to get them back into the Premier League.

FOOTBALL Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor, who branded the relegated club a joke - 0

Taylor, 23, has been linked with moves to Aston Villa and Everton over the summer, but the centre-back said he will not join the player exodus from St James' Park.

He said: "I was part of the team which was involved in taking Newcastle down and out of the Premier League and I want to put it right by being part of the side that takes us back where we belong, in our rightful place in the top flight.

"I have never swayed from that aim. There has been interest but I want to make very clear that I have always wanted to lead Newcastle back to the Premier League. That has always been my main wish."

The news will be a boost for Newcastle fans, who have already seen Michael Owen, Sebastien Bassong, Damien Duff, Habib Beye and Mark Viduka leave the club since they were relegated at the end of last season.

  6. Players are saying things along the line of " Nodody's sure where they stand. You turn up for training to told that you've been sold, or sometimes you even hear it on the TV without being informed by the club. " Well. Does this apply to the dead wood like Geremy, or Colochini who are on big wages and refuse to move on if it involves a pay cut? Exactly. If Taylor wants to stay, he should simply refuse to leave.

He should say," I've got a contract here, and I'm going nowhere ok ." You can't force a player out if he refuses to leave. Everybody keeps saying that it's the players who have all the power these days..

  8. I hope your words stay true as the club does need true players who speak the truth and not ones who speak rubbish, the club does have to go forward and that will only happen if the players work together and stay as a stable team.
