The 22-year-old, currently on Tri-Nations duty with the Springboks in Australia, started his career with the Pretoria team - before his senior provincial debut in 2005.

A year later, he captained the under-21s national team to the world title, made his Super14 debut and also played his first Test match against New Zealand at Loftus Versfeld.

His signature will be a major boost for the Bulls - who only last week learnt that another of their star players, Bryan Habana, will be leaving for rivals Western Province.

Meanwhile, the union have also confirmed that loosehead prop Dean Greyling has extended his contract until the end of 2011.

The 23-year-old, a product of Affies, turned down "numerous offers from other unions", the Bulls said on their website.

Greyling added: "It was actually a very easy decision to make. I love playing for the Bulls and I enjoy myself in this environment - and that is why I decided to stay true to the blue."
