Pompey keen to keep James

Tue, 01 Sep 08:37:28 2009

Sulaiman Al Fahim is desperate for England goalkeeper David James to stay at Portsmouth as the summer transfer deadline approaches.

Al Fahim, who has agreed to buy Pompey from Alexandre Gaydamak, was at Fratton Park at the weekend for the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City when James was ruled out through injury.

"We don't need to sell players," Al Fahim insisted. "Sylvain Distin leaving was disappointing for me. We would like David James to stay at the club."

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has first-choice stopper Heurelho Gomes currently sidelined and is a huge admirer of James, who has seen Distin, Glen Johnson, Lassana Diarra, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch leave Portsmouth recently.

  3. Why do we have to put up with all the lies from chairman to manager over transfer deals. Fans are treated like something stuck on the bottom of your shoe. I would love to see all football fans boycott the premiership games for a month...think of it ..empty football grounds for a whole month I think that would gain us a bit of respect. It wouldnt make any difference that they already have your money the impact would be startling.

  4. just ask larger amounts for the players we want to keep then if we get it its a bonus, and we can buy younger talent.
I hate the lack of loyalty from people in this great game.

  6. We want him to stay means we will sell him!! same with all the others management trying too keep face. Well if he wants to go let him then we can sign up Peter Smichael as 2nd choice!! Does Peter Storrie own a wheel chair company? because its gonna be worth a big order with so many older players. One question how much will they be earning and does it affect their national Pension Plan???
