Darren Gough could become the second English player to sign up for the Indian Premier League.
Former Yorkshire captain Gough, 38, has been contacted about a move to the cash-rich competition, which runs its second season next April.
Gough retired from full-time action on the county scene last week and received a special award in recognition of his career achievements at the Professional Cricketers' Association annual dinner on Monday.
He is to meet officials from the Twenty20 tournament next week and could follow Dimitri Mascarenhas, the one English representative in the first season, into the IPL.
"The IPL has always been an interest for me," Gough told the BBC. "I can still bowl, I've proved that this season, I still get a buzz from cricket and it would be nice to test myself at that level again.
"The IPL would be a great buzz for me and I need cricket to be a buzz. It's something I know I could do.
"Every single cricketer wants to play in the IPL and there's not so many places available this year."
That would suggest Gough is being viewed as a short-term fill-in as players come and go during the six-week event.
Gough has hinted that he could yet play 20-over cricket in England next summer.
He is also involved in setting up a cricket academy for youngsters in Abu Dhabi this winter.

I don't know a lot about cricket however I do appreciate genuine sportsmen and women. Darren Gough in my opinion is right up there with the best of them.
A true grafter on the field and to the best of my knowledge maintained a dignified lifestyle off the field.
If he has an opportunity to make some financial gains in the IPL well fair play, one last point, he would not be asked if the powers that be did not believe in his ability to give 100 percent.
Good luck to ya Darren
I agree with nemesis he should take any opportunity right now. For sure I doubt whether he would be fit enough in April 2010.
But it does go to show the extreme amounts of money that is available to these guys and how much it can influence their lives. I am still angry at the 're-emergence' of Harmison, quite suddenly when there was talk of half a million quid on offer.
To me, Harmison is a whimp, he couldn't withstand pressure and sulked away 'to see what my coach advises'. His return has meant that Hoggard has had to stand down, a guy who worked his balls off while Harmison went AWOL.
I am afraid that whatever Harmison achieves in the ensuing months I will look on his results with total apathy. He should have been dumped forever but our fickle selectors are easily convinced (by Ambrose?)
Darren has been a great servant of Yorkshire and England and I for one wish him well in the IPL. Who would begrudge the lad getting a few bob in his 'twilight year' in the game. My personal thanks Darren for the pleasure you gave to thousands of true Yorkshire and England supporters. The great pity is that there was only one of you.
