Team of the Week

(4-2-3-1)

GK: Antonios Nikopolidis (Olympiacos) - Without the veteran keeper in their line-up, the Greek side could easily have been beaten by five or six. Stopped (nearly) everything a rampant Arsenal threw at him.

- - -

RB: Daniel Alves (Barcelona) - Tireless in his support of Messi on the right wing, and delivered several telling passes of his own, one of which Ibrahimovic should really have scored from.

CB: Michael Ciani (Bordeaux) - The centre-half got the all-important goal to down Maccabi Haifa and made timely contributions in defence. A committed display from the French defender.

CB: Nicola Legrottaglie (Juventus) - Juventus played for a draw at the Allianz Arena and although they rode their luck at times, Legrottaglie's well-executed challenge on Bastien Schweinsteiger in the area with 15 minutes remaining probably sealed the Old Lady a valuable point in a tricky group.

LB: Ismail Koybasi (Besiktas) - Koybasi was a lone warrior in the Besiktas defence against CSKA Moscow and his responsibilities included the unenviable task of containing the imposing striker Tomas Necid, whom he subdued to great effect. The left-back capped his fine display with a pinpoint cross to pick out Ekrem Dag for the Turkish side's stoppage-time consolation strike.

- - -

CM: Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal) - The Gunners skipper was instrumental in Arsenal's total domination of Olympiacos at the Emirates. Laid the second on a plate for Andrei Arshavin and was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet with a barnstorming shot that crashed off the bar.

CM: Miralem Pjanic (Lyon) - He may be young, just 19, but the Bosnia midfielder is showing oodles of promise. A well-taken free-kick and two assists against Debrecen has marked him out as a player to watch on the biggest stage.

- - -

AMR: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) - The Real Madrid superstar scored twice and won the penalty for Kaka. The first goal epitomised his cheek, sliding the ball under the jumping Steve Mandanda when the Marseille keeper was clearly expecting a chip.

AMC: Stevan Jovetic (Fiorentina) - The youngster scored twice for Fiorentina and could have grabbed a hat-trick, as well as displaying some neat touches and linking play well. A threat all night long.

AML: Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - The Argentine wizard was a constant thorn in the Dynamo Kiev side and he prompted panic in the Ukrainians whenever he had the ball. Thoroughly deserved his goal.

- - -

FW: Fredi Kanoute (Sevilla) - Though quiet in the first half, Sevilla striker Fredi Kanoute was instrumental in Rangers' downfall after the break. His vision and quick passing were too much for a stretched Gers defence, and his partnership with Luis Fabiano is one of the best in Europe.

You people must watch your matches on special yahoo telies, the ones that filter out any decent performance by a top 4 premiership player, the same filter that makes very avarage spanish players look better than they realy are ..dont bother with the patant mate, they will never sell over here.

  10. Are you people idiots that call ronaldo the Best?????? First of all lets get the facts straght. What did gay ronaldo do last year???? he scored about 20 goals and won the premiershit, and now he is scoring a few lucky goals that the goal keeper puts them in with his hands. and compare that with Messi. Messi won the Spanish Cup, La Liga, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup, scored 38 goals, and is still scoring goals this season, 2 goals in the Spanish Super Cup, 5 goals in La Liga, and 1 in Champions League. You people that think that ronald will win the FIFA player of the year must be idiots, Messi won all those trophies and there is no way gay ronaldo can win it. The reason ronaldo won the FIFA player of the year last time, is becasue man u won the premiershitttt and the Champions League, and not becasue he was playing better than Messi, becasue every one knows that Messi played better than ronaldo, and we all saw that in all 3 matches of Barcelona vs Man u, when Messi outplayed ronaldo, and Barca outplayed man u. So for your gay ronaldo fans that say such stubit things like ronald is the best, go fuxk yourself.
