Gayle Ready To Deny England

Sat 01 Nov, 09:09 AM

Stanford Superstars captain Chris Gayle insists he does not need any incentive to be competitive on the field.

Destructive left-hander Gayle leads a Caribbean collective against England in a contest that offers winning individuals US dollars 1million.

But team unity will also play a part and that might give England, playing for their country rather than what is effectively a franchise team, an advantage.

However, Gayle said: "It doesn't matter which team I am playing for, I just try to get the job done.

"That's how I play cricket, I have been picked to produce and you have to give it your all out there.

"All the guys have been training hard and it will be really disappointing to walk away empty-handed.

"It is a game of cricket, so whatever happens life still goes on but it will really hurt to lose this game."

Gayle is gunning for close friend and opposite number Kevin Pietersen in the clash for cash, having befriended him when they lined up together for an ICC World XI three years ago in the Super Series in Australia.

As respective dangermen for their teams, they would also go head to head in the event of a Stanford Super Over, the way of settling the US dollars 20million match if it was tied.

"Hopefully I am going to kick his... you know what," said Gayle. "We first met for the games in Australia when we were playing for the World XI and we have built a good relationship from there.

"He is a good guy who has rallied his team really well as the new captain.

"He is aware of situations on the field, knows his game-plan and knows his cricket and so on and so forth.

"He is a dangerous player, there is no doubt about it but I have told him I will get him out already."

The showpiece encounter is to be played on the same surface used for the Superstars' 58-run demolition of Middlesex last night, in which youngsters Andre Fletcher and Kieron Pollard highlighted the raw power in the home ranks.

Twenty-year-old Fletcher cracked seven sixes in his unbeaten 90 while Pollard hit four maximums from only nine balls faced as they outshone stellar trio Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
