Brighton have sacked manager Russell Slade after just eight months in charge of the League One club.

Slade was given his marching orders after the 3-3 draw with Hartlepool left the seaside club fifth from bottom in League One.

Assistant manager Dean White and first-team coach Bob Booker have also left the club, with Martin Hinshelwood taking over as caretaker manager.

"Russell is a good man - which made it an even harder decision to take - but it is one which has been made in the club's best interests," chairman Tony Bloom said on the Seagulls' website.

"Like all Albion fans, I am extremely grateful for Russell's achievements at the end of last season, as he kept us in League One against the odds."

Slade spoke of his disappointment but acknowledged that results played their part in his dismissal.

"I am extremely sad that things have not worked out but we have parted on good terms," Slade said. "I felt we were progressing through a much-needed and vital rebuilding process - that was never going to be easy with the large turnover of players during the close season."

Brighton poker player and entrepreneur Bloom took control of the club at the end of last season, with Slade having been appointed by previous chairman Dick Knight.

  1. If Dennis Wise is even being considered as Manager of Brighton and Hove Albion, I think this would be the end for the Club. New 25,000 seater stadium coming on stream and boy oh boy do we need to get our act together and Dennis Wise is MOST definitely not the man to do the job. I suspect there would be a mass exodus from the club if it happened both players and more importantly supporters. David Tillson -Hove
