England are plotting their route to World Cup glory, but they will not be chugging along to the sound of World In Motion or any other tune for that matter as Fabio Capello has put the brakes on an official song for South Africa.
Good or bad, the World Cup song has been a fixture of England's endeavours to win football's biggest prize since 1970, and 2010 looked set to be no different.
And some talk had even suggested a remake of World In Motion, the New Order song that accompanied England at Italia 90.
There have also been rumours that Take That had put out feelers to pen a tune for the national team, but the News of the World is claiming Capello has put his foot down for fear of a song acting as a distraction to his star players.
An England insider told the News of the World: "There were a lot of big names wanting to record a song. Very big names.
"But Fabio does not want anything that could possibly detract from the preparations - even in the slightest of ways."
Capello has also made it clear that there will no WAGS accompanying the players to South Africa - so with time on their hands perhaps they could get together with X Factor sensations John and Edward and produce a karaoke version of You'll Never Walk Alone.

What about land of hope and glory??music that gets the blood pumping use the vera lynn
original, and not some bunch of glorified p.oof band..LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY..
Footballer's make the worst singers anyway'can nobody remember kevin keegan...
i'd rather have a pub full of pi55ed up karaoke singers!!!!!!!!!
This ones for the fans. Here's a novelty, sing Englands national anthem. Land of Hope and Glory!! Instead of that boring god save the queen.
Richie you numbnuts - capello doesn't want to stop the fans singing - just doesn't want his players to waste training time recording an embarrassanig song.
this could be the re-launch of chas&dave..gertcha!!!
HE NEEDS TO BAN THAT POXY BAND'THEY ALL SEEM TO BE OUT OF TUNE...
FOR SAINT GEORGE AND FOREVER ENGLAND.....
The only way our team of overpaid women thumping,pre-madonna,diving,gr@#$%ing numb nuts will make an impact on the world is with a song and that chance has been taken away.
Sack Capello and bring in Paul McCartney.
England should not dream of this cup. They are over it
There was a World Cup song in 1966...'Red white and Blue, World Cup Willie!', I still remember it..
Thank God Take That n others weren't given a chance ! Get the team playing footy 1st, singing and WAGS can come after the tourney ffs. Enough other songs to sing
Richie he is a world class manager, you think he's not concentrating on the football? LOL God you're a thick pillock.
as long as take that or any other '@#$% band' do it i dont mind a song
Totally agree with Fabio. If England achieved just 1 WC and no other major finals is mainly due to the attitude. All these songs done nothing but create an hype of self-proclaimed world cup winner then sorely losers. In Italy they would never dream of singing "we will win the cup". And Capello knows it.
Why is Fabio Capella not concentrating on the football instead of the songs? Anyway the fans will sing the songs happily on the terraces while watching England's games.
Does Fabio want to stop the fans singing? I'm sure the fans will have the last word concerning that!
lol news of the world. Says it all for you, there will be a song and I doubt Capello would have much say in it anyway.
jules remains stil gleaming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ENGLAND STILL WON'T WIN! Even with wise old Capello!
Well I find it odd that these songs have been done since 1970...I'm pretty sure they haven't won the cup since 66 when no song was needed..Maybe it's an omen...Capello's right...As for the WAGS....I never eally saw the point in all that anyway...
the world cup songs are part of Englands history, how many times have we won to how many songs have there been. Let them make a song, the money raised from the cd could then be given to a charity. Please though don't let the twins ( x factor) be a main contributor to it. Wags are the most likely to put the players off, not the song
I can't see that a song will distract the team,it should not make any difference to the way they play. good luck.
