Coleman: Silly goals cost us

Sun, 01 Nov 12:16:36 2009

Coventry boss Chris Coleman was left to rue his side's inept defensive display after they suffered a disappointing home reverse at the hands of struggling Reading.

The Sky Blues conceded after just 28 seconds, allowing Grzegorz Rasiak to steal in, and it got worse as another Rasiak strike and a Jobi McAnuff effort - either side of a Freddie Eastwood consolation - condemned Coleman's men to defeat.

"Defensively we have conceded silly goals again," Coleman said. "There are a lot of disappointed young players in our dressing room but they will be better for this experience.

"We had a very, very young team and when you concede a goal like that, your bubble has burst before you have started. We made one or two decent chances and we didn't capitalise on that.

"We have to pick ourselves up it is as simple as that. We have a young disappointed dressing room who have never been in this position before and it will be up to the senior players, myself and my staff to pick them up."

  1. He hasnt even made any excuses for the fact that the spine of our team is injured or unfit.
    BEN C.

It's obvious to me that you don't pay much attention to what CC says.....
He said "We are crippled with injuries" only last week.......
Last season he said "We are on the BONES of our backsides"......NOT EVEN HALFWAY through the season.
This is what happens when you have one of the SMALLEST squads in the league!!!

  2. I think you two had better get your heads out of the clouds !!!
The team I have followed for nearly FIFTY years have gone from the old third division to the premier division, and are almost back where they were all those years ago.
Three players are worth their "salt" in this team.....Morrison, Westwood, and the loanee Van Aanholt.
the rest wouldn't have got in my old team that I played for...Coventry Sporting Club.
Get rid of RR and SISU....they are strangling this Club.
Speculate to accumulate by getting some DECENT players in.
Until we do it on the field Coventry City are going "NOWHERE"
The best teams in the world are "Up to their ears in debt"
All SISU are interested in is the Ricoh and a share of profits from any Gigs that are held there.

  3. Michael - I totally agree with you. I saw someone else put some BS up here about how Coleman should go - they havent even been to a game in 10 years and have no idea whats going on at the club!! All the real fans need to get behind the team and CC all the way. He hasnt even made any excuses for the fact that the spine of our team is injured or unfit. Its not all going the way that we like but how often does that happen in football??!?!? Ask Roy Keane...

  4. It was a disappointing display and one that made me angry on the day. But for the first time in years, we are trying to bring young players through the squad which bodes well for the future. Providing always they and the manager are given time. The calls for change and Chris Coleman's resignation on the local radio after the game yesterday were uncalled for. Coventry City has sacked many managers since it was relagated from the Premier League in 2001 and what have the sackings achieved nothing!Other than a total waste of money in redundancy payments and wholesale team changes taht followed. Sadly we have to see this through.
