Torquay boss Paul Buckle praised his side's positive attitude as they ended a run of five draws with a win.

United skipper Chris Hargreaves headed the 81st-minute winner as the ball bounced up from Kevin Nicholson's throw-in from the right.

Buckle's side had not won in the League since a 2-0 victory at Burton on August 18 but ensured an end to that 11-match wait.

"We thoroughly deserved a win on today's performance," Buckle said. "We have deserved wins before now but we have had to be patient and positive.

"I cannot credit the players enough for staying positive. Northampton came here with a good record and are a good side.

"We know this is a tougher league and we have to be better and the work will still continue to be better but today was another step in the right direction."
