Strachan: Plenty of work ahead

Sun, 01 Nov 12:31:38 2009

Gordon Strachan admits it will take hard work to find a promotion formula after Middlesbrough lost 1-0 at home to struggling Plymouth in his debut appearance in the Riverside dugout.

The Scot took charge for the first time in a frustrating game in which Boro spurned a string of chances - and even missed a penalty through Adam Johnson - leaving Plymouth to claim all three points courtesy of Jamie Mackie's second-half strike.

"It was frustrating," admitted Strachan. "It always is when you lose. But it was nice to be back. I enjoyed it, not the game but the experience.

"It will take hard work for us to find a winning formula.

"In terms of creating chances and getting the crosses in we don't have a problem but that formula in terms of scoring goals is just not there. Maybe a bit of that is in the head."

  2. gordon you have a lot of work to do.... not only with the strikers but in particular the defence.
i read the mail yesterday when gordon was saying how phycology has a lot to do when building a team. now i do rank wheater but seriously this guy has lost alot of confidence, he has lost us so many games this season already and these silly mistakes he is making has got to stop, now gordon as you have said you like the way ferguson only has to say a few words to get the team working right now lets see if you can do it.. sort wheaters head out .. whilst your at it get arca playing as well as we know he can and i think the team will start looking a hell of a lot better..., the biggest problems on the pitch right now are arca and wheater..... and the positions they play are vital to the game if these areas are not working then the slide will continue
p.s i still think gareth was a better choice. . . stupid stupid mistake getting rid so early
what was the guy meant to do with such tight restrictions on finances, he knew as well as any what the team needed but could not do anything to rectify it... but it seems all the sudden a new manager has got the finances for next season.... absolute rubbish... given the cash gareph would have done sooooo much better.
poor poor boro.... we need you fixing i only hope steve knows what the hell it is that needs fixing rather than tinkling about untill he finds it
