Season 2009 - Prost Jr looks for F1 move

Newly-crowned Euro F3000 champion Nicolas Prost, son of four-time world champion Alain, is looking for a move into Formula One.

Prost Jr. secured the Euro F3000 title at the Magione circuit in Italy on Sunday and is now hoping that he's done enough to earn himself the right to test for Ferrari.

"I hope this title can help me in the future," said Prost Jr. "I would like to do a test for Ferrari."

Nicolas started his motor racing career at the relatively late age of 22, but in the last five years has picked up experience at Le Mans and in the A1GP series prior to his move to Euro F3000 with the Red Bull team. Entering F1 at 27 would be extremely late by the standards of recent entrants such as Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa, but victory in an F3000 series is a well-recognised stepping stone to the top level.

Alain Prost acknowledged that a drive for Ferrari is his son's dream, and still has good links with the team that he drove for during the 1990 and 1991 seasons.

"I would like him to do a test in Formula One," he said. "I have good relationships with Ferrari so I hope a little bit that they'll give him a test."

If Nicolas Prost were to find a seat in Formula One he would become the third son of a world champion to appear on the current grid, with Williams driver Nico Rosberg and Renault's Nelson Piquet Jr. being the offspring of 1982 champion Keke Rosberg and three-time champion Nelson Piquet respectively.

Ayrton Senna's nephew Bruno Senna is also attempting to break into Formula One. Bruno has been testing for Honda following his second place finish in the 2008 GP2 Championship.

  1. Interesting. I really liked his Dad, a bit of racer he was, he used to overtake and stuff. Would get too many penalties these days though.
