Derry departure leaves 'sour taste'

Wed 02 Jan, 01:30 PM

Assistant boss Dave Bassett says Shaun Derry's decision to turn his back on Leeds has left manager Dennis Wise "very angry and disappointed".Bassett saw Leeds lose their unbeaten home record with a 3-1 defeat to Oldham and revealed Derry would have played if he had agreed to return from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

Bassett refused to confirm whether Derry had played his last game for the club, but said: "Dennis feels Shaun has snubbed him and Leeds United.

"The manager is very angry and disappointed because we have some big games, but Shaun decided not to come back and help us.

"We are down to the bare bones in that department of the team and it has left a sour taste in Dennis' mouth, that's for sure."

Without midfielders Jonathan Douglas and Jonny Howson, Leeds never got started and John Sheridan's Oldham registered their sixth successive away win.
