Wolves fans turned on manager Mick McCarthy during Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Sheffield United - and their boss Bryan Robson knows how it feels. In a game that neither side could afford to lose, both Wolves and the Blades battled hard but produced little in a dull Molineux stalemate.
Robson's side languished in 16th place before the game and despite a chairman's vote of confidence, he was desperate for a win.
Wolves' current form was even worse after a run of six games without a win which has seen them plummet from automatic promotion contention to 10th place in three weeks.
After 70 uneventful minutes, McCarthy swapped one Irish striker with another when Andy Keogh was replaced with Stephen Elliott.
McCarthy was met by chants of "you don't know what you're doing" as a result.
The former Sunderland manager admitted he heard the fans and said: "I think I do know what I'm doing.
"I'd sooner they gave me the abuse and not the players - my players are in it with me.
"It is frustrating for me and the players - they are not enjoying not winning games."
The Blades played a 4-5-1 system that prevented Wolves from creating chances in midfield.
"When a system is played like that, you need a bit of zip to change it," said McCarthy.
The Wolves boss admitted his players did not have that urgency against United but believes he can rekindle the team's creativity and will not be relying on new players signed in the transfer window.
United were without leading goalscorer James Beattie but the first of Robson's signings this month, Gary Speed, got off to a great start.
The 38-year-old former Wales international was a steadying influence on the Blades throughout the game and he was first to have a shot on goal in the fifth minute.
Robson had a different take on the game.
He said: "Apart from when the referee didn't stop play when Gary Naysmith got injured, I thought that was the only opportunity Wolves had.
"It was a good, workmanlike performance away from home. We had a couple of situations when I thought we should have done better.
"Overall we have got to be pleased after not having any breaks over the last few games.
"A point at Wolves is not bad but when you play a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 we've done quite well in those games, but when I've played 4-4-2 away from home people have been creating a lot of chances against us.
"There were decent performances from Gary Speed for his first game. Lee Hendrie was good on his first game back."
Top-scorer Beattie is facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up a knock.
Robson said: "It is looking like a three or four-week injury."
