Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Billy Davies as their new manager.

The 44-year-old succeeds Colin Calderwood at the City Ground and has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Reds.

David Kelly joins Davies as assistant manager and the pair will officially begin their duties on Monday with caretaker-boss John Pemberton taking charge of the FA Cup third-round clash with Manchester City on Saturday.

"Billy's record in the Championship is superb," said Forest chief executive Mark Arthur.

"We're hoping he can build on his already impressive achievements with us."

Davies' first game in charge will be against fellow strugglers Charlton at The Valley a week on Saturday.

  1. As a realistic Forest fan of some 42 years now - I get sick and tired of hearing that we are a premiership outfit- We can't afford premiership wages so we can't sign premiership players - any home grown talent will be off to clubs that can afford premiership wages - If Billy Davies can keep us in the Championship this season and get us to the play offs next season - he will have done enough for me. If we can get into the premiership for a a season a la West brom, Watford or even ( dreaming now) 2 seasons a la Reading then he should be given the freedom of Nottingham

  2. As a forest supporter for over 35 years i think we should give billy davies a chance.
Colin Calderwood was way out of his depth and his tatics was terrible.
Forget about davies managing Derby and lets all get behind him in this poor season we are having.
We need all the help we can get
    daz layden.

  6. 3 1/2 year contract for a man who has been unemployed for over a year. Ridiculous! Forest management have no idea what they are doing.

  9. As a Derby fan, I think fairplay on the hire, I thought he did a good job at Derby, although in important games he's not the type to change tactics to get a win, which can cost a team points.

I can imagine he's really looking forward to the game between Forest and Derby even if he wouldn't admit it to get some revenge for his leaving or being forced out of the club.

I think he'll keep them up, which I don't mind because as much as I hate Forest I do love playing against them.

  14. Another ex-derby? Would he get another Peter Taylor as co-manager, Maybe we get back to Europe again!
For CC , as Joe Kinnear and Gary Megson can manage the premiership teams. I wish him lucks.

  18. Wouldn't it be ironic if Davies kept Forest up at Derbys expense? It could happen.

I hope Forest do stay up (not a Forest fan by any means) because this is a great name in English football and with great history. Forest play the game on the deck, in the right way and it is the one of the best away days in the Championship.

Ex-players do not always make great managers - I have suffered in recent times with the likes of Peter Taylor - great player but did nothing as a boss.

Good luck to Forest! Hope they have kept Pemberton on...

  19. i think its a step in the right direction after colin calderwood ,he got us out of division 1 but think that was as far as he could of taken us.we all need to get behind the team and management as we are a premiere league outfit, i just hope there are no bad feelings between earnshaw and davies as i think they had there differences at derby? come on you reds
