Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Billy Davies as their new manager.
The 44-year-old succeeds Colin Calderwood at the City Ground and has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Reds.
David Kelly joins Davies as assistant manager and the pair will officially begin their duties on Monday with caretaker-boss John Pemberton taking charge of the FA Cup third-round clash with Manchester City on Saturday.
"Billy's record in the Championship is superb," said Forest chief executive Mark Arthur.
"We're hoping he can build on his already impressive achievements with us."
Davies' first game in charge will be against fellow strugglers Charlton at The Valley a week on Saturday.

its nothing to do with Davies himself. He's got a good record at Preston and at Derby. the problem is a more general one. he is Forest's 15th manager now since Cloughie. what many fans were hoping for was a new start but a really new start to get us back where we belong. For me and other forest fans I speak to this meant Clough junior with Crosby or maybe even Metgod in support. It just seems that Davies is destined to end up the latest in the list of failed Forest managers. I hope he doesnt and of course he will be given a chance but its damage limitation at this point.
whats with all the negativity give the man a chance. new year new start let the team and the fans get behind billy and maybe good things will happen.
Derby reject!!!!!!!!!
What do people expect? Be realsistic, What other manager would come to a club with zero cashola, talks of Cloughie Jnr or Keene are just talk. Put your cash into the club by watching them say I. Like dntalor says judge on performance. I worry about the length of contract though, if it does go belly up it will cost to back out.
so what are people saying, are they saying that billy is worse than the other dross that the board have oppointed in the past,at least he knows the league were in and gets players to play posative attacking football. in my opinion the fans dont want him because he,s ex-derby,i did,nt see the fans moaning when brian clough came to the city from derby and look what he did. im not saying its going to be a revisit but at least give billy a chance and judge him on his performance, good luck billy.
This is a pretty cold shower on the first day of the year. I am without words and fear more dark days for forest fans. Gutted.
OH DEAR!
This must be the worst decision the Forest board have made since subjecting us to Alan Brown in the 70's, and that includes the likes of Joe Kinnear and Luigi Platt. The majority of supporters did not want him and unless he obtains immediate success on the pitch I'm afraid both he and the club will suffer. Good luck Billy, you are going to need bucket loads of it.
