Eurosport - Fri, 02 Jan 13:59:00 2009

Carlos Tevez insists he is happy at Manchester United and is confident of agreeing a permanent deal with the club.

The Argentina international is currently in the second year of a complicated loan move, with that agreement set to expire in the summer.

United are yet to offer the combative front-man a full-time contract, with the issue having hung over both player and club for some considerable time.

Tevez has been utilised mainly as a squad player by Sir Alex Ferguson this season and has seen his number of outings limited as a result.

However, having helped the club to domestic and European glory last term, the 24-year-od is adamant that he sees his long-term future at Old Trafford.

"I am not preoccupied about my future," Tevez told the Daily Mail.

"My instincts are to stay with the club and in the next week or so I think there will be more contact with regards to sorting out my contract. That is what we've been told.

"My agent is in touch with United all the time and he tells me that everything is very positive now. So it is up to the club.

"Other clubs have asked about me but I see my future at United."

Of those 'other clubs' said to be interested, Spanish giants Real Madrid are thought to he heading the queue.

The reigning Liga champions have a reputation for landing high-profile summer signings, but Tevez remains hopeful that United will find the funds to match his considerable price tag.

"Some people say that £32million is high but I cannot comment on that. Those are the figures that were agreed at the start. I am not responsible," he added.

"It has been a complicated season for me, there is no point denying that. I have not been able to get as many minutes on the field as I would like because the quality of the forwards at the club is incredible.

"It is not easy for forwards to get into this team and I have suffered. But that does not make me want to leave. I have no urge to run away."

  3. Im an Arsenal fan, but if Fergie doesnt keep this man, it will be a HUGE mistake! Berbatov is good, no doubt about it, but there is more to Tevez than meets the eye.

First off, he scores when he is needed to score, he is hardworking, and he is willing to play almost on any position.
Plus he is strong, and not injured all the time...

Sure, 32m is a silly price, but does anyone think that Berbatov is worth that much anyway?! If he does, It is perfectly natural that Tevez has a price tag somewhere on that level.

First time Berbatov gets some serious injury you wont see him for the whole season...

  4. Tevez is world class and he is an excellent impact player he can literally win the match with one kick like he did last season and has done this season. SA feels that to keep Berbatov happy he has to start with him otherwise he gets the silent sulky treatment from the Bulgarian. Where as Tevez is a real professional and will always give his all whether hes starting or not. Just think about it tactically, would u want Berbatov coming on when ur losing or Tevez with his explosive pace? 32m is a lot but they would pay in installments more than likely with clauses so its not like actually losing 32m.

  5. Wolfman, you have never seen a ManUtd game i suppose. Fact, Berbatov has 7 goals and 7 assists. Exceptional team player. He is not a consumer, he is a creator and finisher. Not even to mention his firts touch. Berbatov is having most assists in the team. After all he is not playmaker. This is not a joke. Please check the stats. I believe that maybe Tevez will be more efective if the team is leading with a goal and there is more space to play on counter. But when teams are playing all players deffending, Tevez doesnt do much to be honest, no matter how much he runs or he puts 110%. I am sure teams will continue playing like this vs united coz this is the only way to get anything if something. Thats why in most cases Berba will be the first choice of SAF. I am sayign again, Tevez is very good player too. No question about it, but 32mil is way too much. And from ManUtd will never pay that much for a second choice striker. And if last season Manutd was scoring more it wasnt just because of Tevez-Rooney partnership. Did you forget about Ronaldo? He kinda scores some goals.

  6. There is no wat Man U will pay 32 million in the current climate. They would be better to spend half that amount on another striker. It will be a shame if he does go because he gives his all and covers more ground than most. Berbatov needs to show a lot more commitment to win over the fans and his arrival seems to have had an aderse affect on Tevez

  7. Ferguson should not have bought Berbatov and he should have spend the money to buy Tevez contruct it would have been a better investment. Tevez gives 110% in every game

  11. Carlos Tevez is a fast paced player. If United entire speed especially when the ball crosses the halfway line going foward could play faster carlos Tevez as well as Rooney will find the back of the net more times than combined Liverpool and Chelsea

  14. I particularly think Babertov was a waste of money. We already have enough players for atleast 5 more years. Get the boys like Tevez, Anderson, and Nani to always play in the first Team. They are good enough.

  18. Rooney and Berbatov have not gelled yet and it shows. Last year Tevez and Rooney formed quite a formidable strike force and it's sad to see Tevez on the bench especially with Berbatov just strolling along at the park. Tevez certainly contributed more in terms of efforts. But 32m for him is on the high side. Certainly there could be a better out and out striker for that price.
