Daggers blunted by Hatters

Sat 02 Feb, 08:16 PM

Dagenham and Redbridge's misery continued as they slipped to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of mid-table Stockport County. The Hatters' top scorer Anthony Elding was sold to Leeds on transfer deadline day, but County boss Jim Gannon saw Leon McSweeney's net-busting strike after just six minutes see off the League Two strugglers.

Stockport had come out all guns blazing in this encounter as McSweeney rifled home from 20 yards and Anthony Pilkington fired just wide with Tony Roberts rooted to the spot.

Dagenham came within inches of equalising midway through the half when Ben Strevens' header hit the underside of the bar and just bounced out.

In the second half, it was Stockport who had more of the possession, but they couldn't find that second killer goal.

In fact, it was the Daggers who had the better goalscoring opportunities as substitute Jon Nurse just failed to get on the end of Ryan Hall's cross.
