NADAL SETS THE BENCHMARK
Roger Federer now seems unable to win against Rafael Nadal. What everyone was talking about Federer achieving not long ago, now seems possible for Nadal. If Federer does manage to equal or better Sampras's record, it seems we already know the name of the man who will challenge it next.

TEARS FOR THE FUTURE
Almost all legendary sports stars had their legendary rivals. The pain of yesterday's defeat will be temporary. Nadal is the Joe Frazier of the present day. He is strong, he is young and he is winning. But the greatest, the unequalled, the Muhammad Ali of tennis? In the end that will be Federer.

NADAL MAKES FEDERER SUFFER
After already toppling Federer from the top of the world rankings, and replacing him as Wimbledon champion, Nadal has now stormed Federer's last stronghold by beating him at a hardcourt Grand Slam tournament. But Federer's chances of breaking his sport's most important record remain good.
The consistency which he has shown in recent years is unique and will not be matched by Nadal.

GOD NADAL
Federer cannot fathom how his perfect tennis can be defeated again and again by the fury of Nadal. That's why he was crying.
And it hurts Nadal. But he will carry on beating him because he cannot help himself.

RAFA FINISHES THE REVOLUTION
Tennis has entered the neo-Rafaelite age. Only five men have won all four Grand Slam titles over their careers - Fred Perry, Roy Emerson, Rod Laver, Don Budge and Andre Agassi. Now Nadal, and not Federer, is the more likely to join that quintet.
The Guardian
NADAL'S HOLD OVER FEDERER MAKES EVERYTHING POSSIBLE
So much has been written and discussed about the possibility of Roger Federer being, or becoming, the greatest player of the modern era that Rafa Nadal's extraordinary career has hardly been considered in that light. Yet here he is, at 22 years old, having just won his sixth major at the Australian Open. At this age ¬ Federer had won two.

NADAL MAKES FEDERER CRY
It will be interesting to see in the next tournaments how Federer reacts to the new situation. The tears which he could not stop during the ceremony were a surprise but also a moment of weakness, or maybe of anger for a title which eluded him. Corriere della Sera
FOR THE SWISS IT IS A NIGHTMARE
Certain moments last forever. Roger Federer left us suddenly after four hours and 23 minutes of an incredible video game that is not for sale.

NADAL, REAL TOUGH NUT
If he (Federer) does not change anything, it may harm his chances in the important matches of beating a rival who now is the only master of the field.
Rafael Nadal can see higher, further. He now is in the best position to take over from Rod Laver and complete a Grand Slam.

FEDERER GOES TO WATER
Rafel Nadal was born to play Roger Federer. There is no other player on the planet whose style, approach and mind bruises Federer's silken craft as often or as menacingly as the unmerciful Mallorcan.

NADAL DEFEATS A TEARFUL FEDERER IN AUSTRALIA
Nadal said that he was convinced Federer would beat Sampras's record. Perhaps Federer will, but for now Nadal, however respectful, keeps blocking his path.

NO TIME FOR TEARS OF THE FED
Federer was entitled to his tears. Tennis is a game of great tensions, especially when it runs to five sets in a Grand Slam final. Win or lose, you need release and a bit of weeping is better than smashing your racket against a wall.

The emergence of a thousand coaches and experts about Frederer's game plan against Nadal is full of fury signifying nothing. The only genuine panacea is in Federer's head and heart than in his hand and style.Leave the hero alone to reflect in quiet.
I agree with 142. Sampras was a player who dropped is serve rarely and very often all that he needed was a single break to close the set. There were some great matches between him and Agassi and i remember how hard it was for Agassi to get a break. Even when Sampras was not playing so well he was still able to at least gain his service games and force a tiebreak or get a very late break and close the set. Last year, there was a tournament of 3 matches between Federer and Sampras and in the second and third match Sampras really found his range on serve and was very difficult to break; he even beat Federer on one match. This was already said, I think, but Federer should change his tactics at least against Nadal; he cannot beat Nadal by playing from the back of the court because Nadal is arguably the best player who plays from the baseline; also he is very fast and fit; and lastly, and this is important, he now has a mental edge over Federer. Federer is a complete player and in my opinion he should attempt to incorporate the serve and volley style of game against all players. He serves and volleys well but he seems to like more to play from the back of the court and even more when playing against Nadal he comes even more rarely to the net - this allows Nadal to get into rhythm as he really likes long rallies.
In New York we say "Whose your Daddy!" or "Your my b i t c h now!" Rafa....you can definitely walk up to Roger Federer and say "I'm your daddy b i t c h."
Congrats RAFA!!!! I'm just a real sport. ROGER FEDERER still the NO. 1 for me and will always will be, in my mind and in my heart. But indeed, watching and analyzing the match, Rafa really deserves to win. Among my circle of friends, we have our favorites, and I stand always with Fed, no matter what, win or loose. Seeing each match as it progresses, every match of Roger and Nadal with other opponent, I can actually tell that Nadal could win the match with Roger if he stays with his game. But if Roger will be as aggressive like what he did in the 2nd and 4th round, just like as what he did with del Potro and Roddick in the Quarters and Semis, he has the advantage. The analyst are correct with their observations because I can relate to their comments, and it's true. If Roger will not change his tactics, he will continue on losing to Nadal.
As Roger cries buckets of tears, I wept with him. I know exactly how it feels and it saddens me. It's not a feeling of great loss and helplessness, but a degree of utmost disappointment because deep in our hearts we knew that we just did screw-up the moment. It's a waste indeed of not doing more.
I truly love the Duopoly, if Nadal and Federer continues to dominate the game, it's just absolutely fine. They respect each other, and that's what matters. Let's just all unite and savor each moment of the game. The drama and the winning. The glory and the losing. This is not an avenue of bad-mouthing and nonsense commentaries. We should be a perfect epitome of a real sportsman, as what Roger and Rafa are doing.(RUSSYLLE M., KUWAIT-MOH)
Sampras would beat Nadal now cos he's got a great serve and a great volley
Sampras would beat Nadal now
I do agree with a point someone made about Fed being the best in a poor era,I mean until Nad came along we are hardly talking great players as opponents. Mac had Borg ,Connors, Lendl, Becker etc.
Sampras had Agassi,Edberg,Courier,Becker, etc All Slam winners, Fed has had nobody to push him.So now he needs to step up a gear and prove his greatness and he can but he must change his game for Nadal who is brilliant if a little one dimentional.
In New York we say "Whose your Daddy!" or "Your my @#$% now!" You can definitely walk up to Roger Federer and say "I'm your daddy",
Also Feds forehand volley wasnt good enuff so he should play doubles more cos he aint gonna beat Nad from the back so he must come in to the net therefore he must volley winners.Thats what Mac did and at his peak nobody could stop him.
Bring back the serve and volley Mac 1984 would have beaten Nadal because he wouldnt try to beat him from the back.Listen and learn Roger Remember Mac V Connors.
Invalid comment :(( it must be a joke of Eurosport..:-s
Honestly, i am always trying to write as fast as i can, as i see my post here, this thing drives me crazy. Sorry again...for the mistakes in my english.
Invalid comment again...Wanted just to say sorry for some mistakes i've made in my last post...
whatever we say on this site does not realy matter. the main issue here is that nadal wl continue to win titles if he is to meet federer in the finals. mentally, federer thinks he can never beat nadal, no matter the surface and until he gets that out of his mind, then he should forget taking back the numba one. that is for sure.
"It has been reported that Roger Federer, former #1 and future best, has been seen shoveling the snow at the All England Lawn Tennis club. He was wearing a sleeveless shirt, clip-on pony tail, and was overheard yelling in Spanish. He was being cheered on from the Royal Box by Prince Charles and Gwen Stefani. Asked what he was doing, Roger replied: 'After winning the Australian Open in my dreams, I had a nightmare, that Wimbledon's grass was being covered over by red clay, so I had to see it for myself, no ?'."
And...BTW, Roger when were 22...had 2 grand slams, Rafa has already 6. Another difference between them, if we really have to compare them again and again...
Roger is a legend, is...everything you want( all my respect for him ) but Rafa has all the surfaces, Roger has not. That's why i can say about Rafa...that he is better, not only about the possition in the rank. So, Rafa is better, thinking about the rank, the surfaces and the way he plays. With the body and mind, together, he is above all. Hope him to hold on!
there is no doubt that roger will win more than 15 grandslams but now rafa is better than him. i watch rafa because he shows desire to win matches even though he is not expected to win. i admire that he learnt to play on other surfaces other than clay. why i think roger will win more because other players believe they can beat nadal but only murray and nadal believe can beat roger. nova sometimes.
we need to give nadal praise because it takes something to beat roger that much. i get embarassed when experts do not give nadal credit. i guess they will always get it wrong because they don't rate nadal where he is. he is only 22!
i have a feeling he will lose french open unexepectedly but will win the us open.
whilst, everyone is intitled to their opinion that Nadal can easily be beaten by Murrary,Blake,....and so on.he does not disappoint me by winning the more important tornaments. He said before the final against Federer, that he was in his best form or preparation for the tornament.l believed him ,then.l now a pompous guy whose form is good on unimportant tornaments and chokes on big ones.ha!ha!
Federer is no daubt great in the game of Tennis but with the way things are going,Nadal for sure will be grater his mental level as his age is too high. (Joe Australia)
