Greece captain Angelos Basinas has joined Portsmouth on loan from AEK Athens hours before the close of the January transfer window.
The 33-year-old former Panathinaikos and Real Mallorca midfielder, who has 97 caps, signed an 18-month loan deal.
Basinas joins fellow Greek international Theofanis Gekas, a 28-year-old striker, who has also signed for Pompey on loan from Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the season.
Pompey executive chairman Peter Storrie said: "We've brought in someone of immense experience, the current captain of Greece who is just three games away from winning his 100th cap for his country.
"He's exactly what we need in the situation that we're in. He's a player that Tony was eager to bring to Pompey.
"He desperately wanted to come here and we have an option to sign him for a further year on top of the 18 months."
Storrie also refuted talk of midfielder Sean Davis being sold by the club, adding: "(manager) Tony Adams is adamant that he doesn't want Davis to leave, so he's not going anywhere."

STOP WHINGEING STOCKHOLM...................THEY DON'T TAKE THAT TOO LIGHTLY IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP................
What the @uck are you on about now Rock and Roll? Are you retarded or something? Why do you constantly slag of Portsmouth and its fans? If we are as @#$% as you make out why are you so bothered about us? Let it go, get over it, don't even think about us. We can get along very well without your well thought out, structured and intelligent comments thank you very much. Why not concentrate on your own team? Leave the Pompey pages to the Pompey fans.

The idea of selling Sean Davis filled me with horror. He is positively the las player that I would like to see leave. In fact I have considered that he should be made Captain - if he would take the job. i realise that it would put other noses out of joint but so be it. The performances of Distin and Kaboul together against Fulham were attrocious. Do they not practise playing together.
PLAY UP POMPEY. You can get out of this.
Norfolk exile.
Thank you very much Pompey for taking that useless @#$% away from us(
AEK Athens)! The guy doesnt have lungs....33 years old, it was useless at the Greek game let alone at Premiership pace! When he came to AEK this summer he signed a 1 million euro a year contract for playing 50 minutes if that per game!
