Premier League - Everton take Jo on loan

Eurosport - Mon, 02 Feb 19:02:00 2009

Everton have agreed a loan deal until the end of the season with Manchester City forward Jo.

The Brazil international joined City last year from Russian club CSKA Moscow for £18 million but has struggled to make an impression at the club.

Jo has scored just one league goal for City, and has barely featured since the turn of the year.

"Jo agreed personal terms with Everton today and arrived at Goodison Park earlier to complete the loan move ahead of the 5pm transfer deadline," Everton's website said.

"Unfortunately the striker will not be available for the Blues to face Liverpool on Wednesday night as he is cup-tied after featuring for Man City in their third round clash with Nottingham Forest."

Everton have been short of strikers with Yakubu, Louis Saha and James Vaughan all injured.

  1. It's rare I agree with Everton fans about anything but they are right here. As with many City players this season, mark Hughes has failed completely to get the best out of Jo or build a system in which he could thrive. He will do well under Moyes who has forgotten more about coaching and systems then Hughes ever knew.

  3. The one thing Jo is not is quick - appears very laboured in everything he does. He is also surprisingly poor in the air for such a big man. Having said that, given City's options, he possibly should have been given a more prolonged spell in the side, although when he was in the side early season he didn't ever look like much of a goal threat. I would still have liked to have seen him play with Bellamy, plus Moyes wouldn't buy him 'blind', so to speak.

You never know, though, sometimes you can't put your finger on why it doesn't work for a player in one side but does in another and he's only 21.

  4. If it comes off as I hope it does we could sell Anachebe, saha and vaughn.Anachebe will never make the grade,Saha and vaughn unfortunately are to injury prone . This is a pity about vaughn but you have to face facts.

  5. j.s.jones73 Jo is in the same position that fellaini was, Very young player coming into an everton starting lineup. So i think Fellaini just needs time to sort out his mentality then his card numbers will go down, as for Jo i just hope he can find his CSKA ways here at everton, I think Moyes can bring it out of him :)

  8. 30 goals in 50 games @ CSKA how can you say he is a waste of a signing, David Moyes has made a good decision in bringing Jo to Goodison, hopefully we can buy him in the summer along with Sturridge from Eastlands and sell Yakubu, Vaughan and Saha....

  9. Well, I'm happy, anyway. Wonder if he'll become as famous as another Joe who led the line for the Blues?

  11. I agree with Gary R...Jo has had HOURS of time on the pitch, time after time he lost the bottle infront of goal and lost the ball in midfield!!, you wouldnt know this unless you were a city fan and actually went to watch him play.sorry but he is bobbins.

  14. I think that Jo will be a good singing for the toffees, Moyes will get him to top form as he usually does with quality players

  15. Jo will be a success with Everton. He is a proven striker, quick and skilful, and will suit the way Everton play. Man City was a poor move for him for they were in poor form and the acquisitions they have made failed to motivate the team and it lacked cohesion and self motivation. Everton have a strong but small squad and I believe that Jo will provide the impetus required. Good luck to him and Everton. Hope Fellaini and Cahill are on form against Liverpool in the replay and that our defence will stand firm, especially with Torres' return to scoring form.

  17. I agree he has lots of skill and he is nice and tall for those headers. I think Jo will improve greatly as the blues need an attacker .... JO is worth the money city paid but like taff said he never got a good chance to prove it.

Hope she scores lots of goals.

  18. I thought he looked promising but he was not given a chance. If Everton use him he will improve by leaps and bounds and will help them as they need another attacker.

  19. What a great signing for the Blues, have been relying on super Tim Cahill for a month or so and it will be great to have a top quality centre forward back in the team. Hopefully he will do well and we can make the deal permanent - Jon W
