Premier League - N'Zogbia, Taylor swap clubs

Eurosport - Mon, 02 Feb 22:57:00 2009

Charles N'Zogbia's colourful Newcastle career has finally come to an end after his swap deal with Wigan's Ryan Taylor was completed hours before the January transfer deadline.

FOOTBALL 2008-09 Newcastle's Charles N'Zogbia - 0

The 22-year-old Frenchman and his English counterpart, 24, have switched clubs, with the Magpies - in addition - receiving an undisclosed cash sum, understood to be in excess of £6 million.

N'Zogbia's departure comes days after he vowed never to play for the club again in protest at manager Joe Kinnear mispronouncing his surname as "Insomnia" in a television interview.

N'Zogbia becomes Wigan's record signing for an as-yet undisclosed fee, and Latics boss Steve Bruce is confident he can make a big impression at the JJB Stadium.

Bruce told the club's website: "I think this boy can be a really good player for us.

"He's lightning fast going forward but can also play at the back and he fills that left-sided role we've been looking for.

"He is young but he has experience. For a boy of his age to have played well over 100 Premier League games is rare, so with his best years ahead of him, he is exactly the type of player we need for the long-term building of Wigan Athletic.

"I'm delighted to have him on board."

  4. also just reported tho i don't know if it is true is that n'zogbia donated his last months wages to the sir bobby robson cancer fund - if correct, i think it is a marvellous gesture, & may make a few people think of him in a different way (me included)

  5. the latest rumours in the press is that wise is leaving his post at last wahey!!!
1 hing we can thak him for tho is bassong & some of the current crop of u18's who are doing well - however the mistakes & turmoil we are currently in far outweigh any good he has done
let us now hope that mr ashley concentrates a bit more attention to the manager's position - as, as greatful i am to joe k i personally do not think that he is the right man for the position long term

  11. Joe is not stupid. He called him insomnia because he looks fast asleep while playing. He knows a good deal. Ashley is back I see but where is the weasel Wise. Still on the payroll but doing SFA. I'll take the job

  12. Insomnia was obviously not worth keeping

if someone gets that upset of a nothing of a slipup then they arent fit to do anything

at least Ryan Taylor isnt going to run off in a strop if his name is mispronounced

  17. all I can say is.. when the heck is viduka going..... he never runs!!!! and as for mike ashley... shame on you, gutted to see shay going, figured he would end his years with the club, but who can blame him for wanting to get out under a man that makes his profits from transfers!
