Stimson enjoys Gills clean sheet

Sun 02 Mar, 06:30 PM

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson defended Stephen Maher's tackle which saw the Yeovil youngster sent-off during the goalless draw at Priestfield.Stimson was pleased with both the point gaineed and the clean sheet. He said: "That's two clean sheets and four points from the last two games against Huddersfield last week and now Yeovil.

"I think we have got to take the positives out of that. If I'm honest, the red card incident looked like a fantastic competitive tackle to me.

"I haven't seen it on the video but were it happened I thought 'fair play boys, you've both gone to win the ball'.

"Obviously the fracas after it made the referee's decision although he wasn't slow in getting his card out.

"I'm not sure what Russell was talking about with the pitch. If they have a nice pitch down there, then it didn't do them any good last week because they got beat 3-0 by Southend."
