Goerges falls at first hurdle
Germany's Julia Goerges was dumped out of WTA Monterrey in straight sets by Ksenia Pervak of Russia on the second day of action in Mexico.
The number four seed, who reached a career high ranking of 34 at the end of last month, crashed to a 6-1 7-5 defeat in the biggest upset of the first round.
There were no such problems for second seed and defending champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia, who beat Eleni Daniilidou of Greece 6-2 6-7(5) 6-4 to progress.
Fellow seed Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia brushed aside Spaniard Laura Pous Tio 6-2 6-4 while Alize Cornet of France saw off Romania's Simona Halep 7-5 6-1.
Sixth seed Sara Errani was also a winner, the Italian downing Johanna Larsson of Sweden in straight sets 6-2 6-4.
Rounding off the day's action, Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak breezed past local player Ximena Hermoso 6-2 6-0 while another Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova took three sets to beat Romina Oprandi of Italy 6-0 4-6 6-1.
