Crewe have handed a trial to Aston Villa youngster Steven Clancy with the view to handing him a permanent deal for the start of next season.The 18-year-old defender is out of contract at the end of this season at Villa Park and will train with the Railwaymen for the rest of their campaign this term.

A Crewe spokesman said: "We are having a look at Steven with next year in mind.

"He will train with the squad but will be unable to play as he is still under contract with Aston Villa."
