Martin Allen has opened the door to a return to football management by expressing an interest in the vacant position at Huddersfield.Andy Ritchie left the post by mutual consent on Tuesday, three days after a 4-1 defeat by Oldham left the Terriers 14th place in League One, 10 points adrift of an elusive play-off place.

"I am definitely looking to get back into the game," Allen told the Yorkshire Post. "I have had several opportunities but it has got to be the right job for me.

"I have managed teams against Huddersfield in the past and it is an awesome set-up there. It's a big club with good support and an even greater tradition."

Reports suggested that Allen is on a shortlist of three for the job, along with former Coventry managers Iain Dowie and Micky Adams.

Former QPR and West Ham midfielder Allen, now a pundit with BBC Radio Five Live, has had management spells at Reading, Brentford, MK Dons and Leicester.
