Green accuses Posh of foul play

Wed 02 Apr, 11:15 PM

Lincoln's Paul Green has accused Peterborough midfielder Chris Whelpdale of a premeditated attack on him in Saturday's League Two clash.Green suffered a knock to the ribs from Whelpdale's robust challenge six minutes after half-time at London Road, by which point Aaron Mclean's double had put Posh 2-0 up en route to a 4-0 victory.

"I'm unhappy with the challenge, I think he's tried to 'do me'," Green told the Lincolnshire Echo. "He did the same in the first half when he caught me with an arm.

"The challenge on Saturday hurt my ribs and the bruising caused my hip to swell again after I hurt [it] in the game with Barnet."

Green believes that the Whelpdale challenge was a response to comments he made about Peterborough's wide men prior to the match, in which he said: "If there is a 50/50 challenge against them I will always fancy myself to win it. It's a proven fact that if you are playing against a winger and you hit them early on, they will think twice again about coming to get the ball back."

The defender plans to start running again by Thursday, but is doubtful for the Imps' clash with MK Dons.
