Holland calls for midfield impact

Wed 02 Apr, 03:00 PM

Crewe manager Steve Holland admits his side's lack of goals is the main reason they are battling and has challenged his midfield to "chip in".The Railwaymen lie just one place and a solitary point above the drop-zone in League One having managed just 39 goals so far this term.

Striker Nicky Maynard has managed to find the target in his last four games but the Railwaymen have scored just 10 goals from their regular midfield quartet all season, something Holland has identified as a contributing factor to the situation his side now find themselves in.

"We have had a problem all season scoring goals," he told the club's official site.

"We have tried to bring strikers on-loan but there is a challenge there for our midfield because they haven't been prolific.

"We could do with them chipping in because it could be vital in the run-in."
