Counago: Town in Premier class

Fri 02 May, 11:15 AM

Pablo Counago believes Ipswich have "everything they need to play in the Premier League" going into Sunday's crunch game with Hull. The Tractor Boys can gatecrash the Championship play-offs on the final day of the season by beating Hull - depending on how Watford, Crystal Palace and Wolves fare.

Striker Counago has enjoyed a fine season for Town in his second spell with the club.

And after playing for them when they were last in the top flight six years ago, he is well placed to judge his current team-mates' potential.

He said: "Of course it is my ambition to play in the Premier League again.

"It doesn't matter what league you are playing in, you want to be in the top flight and I'm no different.

"This group of players have everything they need to play in the Premier League so we will see if we can do it in the next couple of weeks. It all starts with Sunday's game and we need to keep the dream alive."

Counago has hit 12 goals this season, and despite Ipswich not having their fate in their own hands, he insists the unpredictable nature of the Championship this season means a win could prove enough.

He said: "It is a big game for the team, the fans and for the town as well.

"We hope we can win the game and have some luck with the other results to make sure that we are part of the play-offs.

"It's the biggest game of the season and to play against a big team like Hull, who are fighting for automatic promotion, makes it tougher.

"We need some help from other teams but no-one has an easy game this weekend.

"It has been a good season and half a chance of being in the play-offs in the final game is a reason to be happy.

"For a player, the big games with great atmospheres are the best part of playing football.

"When you hear the people behind you, it is the reason why you play.

"For me, the difference between being a good player and a top player is being able to play at your best when the pressure is on and hopefully we will see that against Hull."
