Davey looks to strengthen Tykes

Fri 02 May, 05:45 PM

Barnsley manager Simon Davey knows he needs to strengthen his squad next season if they are to continue their push up the Championship table. The Tykes head into Sunday's clash with Cardiff knowing their Championship status is secure after last weekend's 3-0 victory over Charlton.

Their survival caps what has been an impressive campaign for Davey's men, who overcame Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea on their way to the FA Cup semi final which they lost to the Bluebirds.

Davey said: "I think we have done as well as we probably could have this season when you bring in 14 or 15 new players. They have all gelled but at the same time they have not yet gelled enough.

"We have improved as a team and have better players who are assets to this football club. We now have a good squad which, with a few additions, in the summer, will be competing higher in the league next season.

"I think I need three or four players in the summer. We will strengthen but I also know that I have until August 9 to get the right ones. That is when the season starts so there is no rush."
