Haslam Eyes Title Bid Launch

Leon Haslam has admitted that he is "looking forward to winning again" ahead of the second round of the British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park.

Haslam is among the favourites to claim his first championship this year after switching to the HM Plant Honda team but suffered a problematic weekend at Thruxton a fortnight ago.

He was fourth in the opening race but then failed to finish in the second race due to an electrical fault and saw team-mate Cal Crutchlow win his first ever race to go joint top of the standings with Shane Byrne.

Haslam said: "Oulton Park has a fantastic layout and always promotes good racing.

"I've always done pretty well there in the past. I know after the disappointment of Thruxton I need to get my championship going so I'm looking forward to winning again.

"That's what we're here to do - win races.

"It's a long season and we're making progress each time I'm out on the bike, but I'm confident that I'll be winning races very soon. I think I've got my bad luck out of the way early."

If Haslam failed to live up to expectations at Thruxton then veteran Michael Rutter shattered them with a pair of third places aboard his North West 200 Ducati.

The 35-year-old was only 12th overall last season but counts the Cheshire circuit as his favourite and is eager to be at the front again this Bank Holiday weekend.

He said: "Oulton Park is probably one of my favourite circuits and I am really looking forward to it.

"I'm in touching distance with the leaders and, while I know there is still a long way to go, the team is good and everything is fine.

"There are a lot of people out there who are going to be really competitive but I'm definitely much happier than when I was just testing the machine.

"The top end speed is not that high as compared to the Honda's but the actual rideability and drive out of the corners is excellent.

"To be third in the championship behind Cal Crutchlow and Shane Byrne so early in the season is a dream come true.

"If I can keep going as I am at the moment it will be fantastic.

"I know that Thruxton was only our first meet but it was a bit of a guideline to what could be in store for the rest of the season."
