Brown rues spitting row

Sat 02 May, 09:47 AM

Phil Brown believes the spitting row with Arsenal may have damaged people's perception of Hull.

Brown alleged Cesc Fabregas had spat at Tigers assistant boss Brian Horton following the teams' FA Cup tie at the Emirates Stadium. The Arsenal captain was subsequently charged with improper conduct while Brown has also been charged by the FA over his criticism of the referee, Mike Riley.

Brown admits it may have altered people's impression of the club. "Possibly it did," he told The Times. "I can't go overboard about that because it's part of an inquiry and I'm under FA scrutiny, but there was a lot (that) went on after the game."

He added: "I would have dearly loved to speak to Arsène Wenger straight after the game.

"I would have put it to him manager to manager, instead of going public, but there was no access to him.

"If there was access, none of this would have come out. But I couldn't speak to him or get any sense out of anyone else.

"Let's conduct the inquiry and then we'll see what comes out.

"I think it's something we need to look at. For as long as I've been involved in football, there has been a culture where the managers have a chat beforehand and afterwards and it doesn't spill over into personal animosity.

"We talked about a Respect campaign for the players at the start of the season. I think the League Managers' Association have a duty to make sure we all get together and say that this tension just can't go on.

"I know there's long-term battles going on with some of the big boys, but it doesn't have to be that way. We should be able to talk to each other, manager to manager."

  1. Andy! lets get this right, Phil Brown is NOT Hull City! he wasn`t even born there! Just like a certain painter fella he did alright in the beginning but started to get Star allure, and a overblown sense of his own importance and infallability! If he just took a few months off and got his head screwed back on right maybe he will get better, just keep taking the tablets! C`mon Tigers!

  3. Phil Brown may have lost the plot and he didn't handle the spitting incident very well but Arsene Wenger is an ignorant , arrogant swine. Very poor sportsmanship from such a great club.

Come on Tigers, show these southern sasusages what we can do eh?????

  4. Theres many a slip between tongue and Lip! Mr Brown you`ve just about used up any Brownie points you ever had! To fall so utterly flat on your face has to be some sort of record! In the normal course of events a slow slide would have seen Hull City sitting nicely in 14th or 15th place! Your consistant monologe about the opposing teams has got to be oh so demorilizing for your own players, or don`t you see it that way! C`mon Tigers! Next year there will be a vacancy for a New Manager irrespective of what happens, Mr Brown you have lost it!

It so enjoyable seeing them get relegatged after there good start to the season, why Brown thought he was the dogs-nuts.. And why is he pursuing this spitting row when he should be focusing on trying to scrape a couple points in the league.

  7. i think phil brown is just trying to deflect attention from the dogs @#$% he has made of the second half of the season, how any team can go into free fall halfway through a season must go down to poor managment he should shut up and concentrate on getting things right on the pitch then perhaps in 20 yrs he can say he was a good manager but somehow i very much doubt it.
