Derby winger Kris Commons is already turning his sights to next season but is wary of expectations being set too high at Pride Park.
The Rams travel to Watford for the final game of a disappointing campaign on Sunday, but the three points against Charlton last weekend at least means their Championship safety is assured and Commons is looking for a big improvement next term.
"When we get a full strength side out there, I think we are more than competitive in this league," the former Nottingham Forest man told the Derby Telegraph.
"We finally got the three points and now we can crack on and concentrate on next year. We need to improve a lot and try to keep key players fit.
"I think Nigel will be judged on what he does next season, once he has had a chance to bring in his own players and put a squad together that he feels is capable of mounting a challenge for the top six."
