La Liga - Perez hails 'model' Ronaldo

New Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes Cristiano Ronaldo would be the ideal player for the Spanish giants and will not be put off by his hefty price tag.

Madrid have long been linked with a move for the Portugal international and, despite last month's denial, there continues to be speculation that they already have a deal in place for the 24-year-old.

"I don't know anything about the story of Cristiano Ronaldo. I only just took charge," he told television programme '59 segundos'. "But what I am sure of is that which seems expensive is the cheapest.

"In my last era the cheapest was (Zinedine) Zidane, who seemed very expensive because we paid 73 million (euros) for him.

"Without knowing who we can get, there will be a massive effort for the great players of the world, because that is the Real Madrid model."

Perez laughed off suggestions that Ronaldo's fierce temper could hinder him at the Bernabeu.

"I have not seen anything about him that would prohibit him from playing at Real Madrid," he added.

"I have seen him get angry because he wants to win and (because of) his competitive spirit.

"The information I have on him says that he is an example on the pitch, a model."

  4. I STAND BY THIS COMMENT: Ronaldo should leave MU now.­ He has paid his due in MU,­ and its time for him to­ move elsewhere. MU has reached­ its peak and the only­ thing left for them now is a fall­ from that height.­ That fall has started with the loss­ of CL to Barca­ last wk.
    MU can't be there on the­ top forever, so­ this is the time they will come down to­ start climbing­ again after a few years. Thats life!­ Madred, Milan,­ Bayern, Juventus etc.., all have had­ this same­ experience.
    So in reality, Ronaldo should­ leave now if­ he dosen't want to go down with MU in­ the coming­ year(s) which will eventually see the­ retirment of­ Ferg.

  8. Im sorry but i can't take this seriously he has­ just compared C.Ronaldo with Zidane. At the the top of­ his game not one player could touch Zidane he had a lot­ more to his game. I was upset when he left football the­ way he did with that headbutt because thats what he­ will be remembered for and not his sublime footballing­ ability!

Real want ronnie for the same reason they wanted­ becks... we produce them.. they lure them in on past­ reputation and market them to high heaven.. it was­ known that becks shirt sales alone was more than­ covering the teams wages... same with Ron.. he will do­ wotever hes advised to do by his milking agent, and­ with whatever he does... well goodluck to him. Utd will­ survive, lets face it.. theres a few good right wingers­ out there that wuld slot in very nicely and be more­ consistant, and just maybe actually turn up for the big­ games ;P hehe.. onwards and upwards utd.

Why would Ronaldo want to leave­ United? If he moves he'll miss out on trying to win­ 4 consecutive league championships (and united's­ 19th) and he'll be challenging for the champions­ league with a team that has a realistic chance of­ winning it. Going to Real would be like moving to Man­ City. WHY?
