Transfers - Your view: Was Terry right?

Eurosport - Tue, 02 Jun 09:34:00 2009

Chelsea captain John Terry believes his new manager Carlo Ancelotti should target players like Franck Ribery and David Villa, but what do you think?

FOOTBALL2008-09 Premier League Chelsea captain John Terry - 0

Here are a selection of postings from our Eurosport-Yahoo transfer messageboard on Monday June 1.

c4ptaze3: John Terry is to Chelsea what Alan Shearer is to Newcastle. He was our captain for the glory days and that means he's the first face we associate with success. I think it was great that he stepped out and said what he did. It showed how ambitious we are now.

Roland: John Terry is the problem at Chelsea...You can't have a player tell the manager what players he should but. In the past it is clear that Terry has got managers fired. He was behind Phil Scolari losing his job. I give Ancellotti four months because he can't speak English and Terry will have a problem with that.

NadikeT: I don't see a place for David Villa in Chelsea's starting 11. Chelsea would have to move to 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 and put Anelka on bench. Ribery would be a good signing and will surely strengthen the left wing. I guess what Chelsea really need is a good central midfielder like Iniesta if they're playing 4-5-1. I think Ballack's time is over now.

Metzelder S: Ancelotti will destroy Chelsea as he only knows how to work with experienced players and not young talented ones. In two years' time Chelsea will look like Milan - packed with veterans. Moreover, we should not go after Ribery, as he is not good enough for England.

  1. THIS SHOULD HAVE READ ARSENAL CAPTAIN CESC FABREGAS BELEIVES HIS OLD MANAGER WENGER SHOULD BUY HIS CONTRYMAN XAVI ALONSO...BUT WHAT IS YOUR VIEW.

  2. i really support the inspirational captain,i should be looking up to young talented players like Ashly young, david villa and others like them.talking of Adebayour and pirlo is out of place when the indefatigable ivorian striker is there.so i completely agreed with Terry.

  3. If it was that easy for a team in the UK to buy up the top players like Madrids Galatico's Man City would have Kaka Messi, Ronaldo, Gerrard, Riberry, Torres, Essien, thank god its not that easy to buy up top stars John Terry should just stick to what he knows best Hoofing the ball up the pitch.

  5. Terry is so right. Ribery will slot perfectly out on the left-wing and David Villa will hav a deadly parnership with Drogba or Anelka, or even Dzeko, Aguero or Pato if we get them.

  6. I don`t think it`s right for a player to decide which players he will like to play with for the manager.Chelsea needs fresh blood like Ribery as mention and I buy the idea of Chelsea becoming like Milan full of veterans.Even Terry needs to quit the team now and some other swift defender brought in.

  8. Yes he's right. Ribery will be a FANTASTIC buy as he is SO GOOD. He is proven as a excellent player. Very skillful, lethal and fast. By the way, although he may not be that strong his playing position do not need this requirement. As in midfield, we need a playmaker with flair, Van der Vaart, Sneidjer, Robben, Iniesta, Messi,Kaka just maybe. About striker, we need some young, talented ones which has high chance to suit the premier league's speed and physicality Pato maybe? or aguero, Benzema. But i would prefer those proven ones like Adebayor and Tevez. By the way, we should get rid of malouda, ballack, belleti, kalou etc...

  10. john terry should keep his nose out,he got rid of jose, now he is trying to tell the new guy how to run the team, not that he will do any good he is 2nd rate ther must be dozens of better choices out there, the russki dont know much about the game, and kenyon is no better, man untd were glad to be shot of him,now i suppose we will have more useless ities coming in ,wot a shambles [ jonno old shed boy]

  12. as much as i agree with #185 tht goals are needed to win trophys one should note that good defenders play an equally important part in getting victories.. for example a team with great strikers and bad defenders can have a lead of 2 or 3 goals nd yet lose because the defenders blew it...

From Aakash, on Tue 2 Jun 2:51PM
  13. John terry can't match the achievement of Alan Shearer. A defender can't bring u trophy, u need goals! Chelsea is not as good as 2 yrs ago and JT is not very good in recent 2 years because of without Jose's instruction. I will agree the owner who splash 100m pounds, Peter Kenyon and Jose who bring in good players, established the success of Chelsea. He's not a world class player but a world class speaker, his speech is very convincing and he always speaks at the right time with the right media. If u don't agree, let's see if he could bring Man City to top 4 assuming he played for Man City. If he was a great captain, England will not be kicked out in group stage of the Euro 08 even though maclaren is a crab manager.

From shingfungyu, on Tue 2 Jun 2:09PM
  14. OMG if JT can be ridiculed like this for just speaking his mind on who he thinks will be a good buy to his dear team then I don’t know what to say about CR7 saying that he blames his coach for using a @#$% tactics against barca on the pages of newspapers,or Mascherano for recommending Tevez to Liverpool....mind you none of the last two is a captain of there respective clubs nether were they what JT is to the blues (JT=BLUES FOR LIFE)i love all chelsea haters

  18. If Cheslski are to really challenge for success, they need to stop wasting their time buying experienced players who they only get a few years out of, look at Shevchenko for example. Possibly the worst spent £30 million EVER.
As for Terry, he should stop acting like he owns the Club, as he doesn't. They've got a mega rich all buying Russian billionaire to tell the manager who to buy, they don't need their adored captain butting in.
But I believe that Chelski's main problem at the moment is that they have too many 'weak' players who go down like a little kid every time they're touched in the box or just outside it. If Drogba really wanted the ball, and to score, he would easily be able to hold off ANY defender in the Premier League, if not the world. SO, why does he dive and act like a spoilt baby?? I don't know the answer but I'm pretty sure he does, and needs to sort it out. Of course, Drgoba isn't the only one, there's Malouda, Kalou, and Anelka (though Anelka is not quite so bad). These are all players who could hold their own in a challenge but instead decide to go down looking for a penalty or freekick, which is just not how football should be played. It's not just at Chelski though, C. Ronaldo is a culprit of the diving fever, as is Berbatov, and Babel at Liverpool. Are they all really so weak?? Or could they stay on their feet and give the defender a bit back?? If they stayed on their feet, naybe they would be able to set some one up for a chance, or even score themselves!!!

But Chelski have to sort it out, they need a more dominating manger who will tell Mr Abramovich who he will buy, not the other around. And Mr Abramovich needs to learn how to lose, not just buy more players to try and win next year. They need a youth organisation, with a quality coach for the young players at the Club so that they can say, "well we're covered in 5 years time, and we won't even need to spend any money!!"

  19. Whats wrong with this site? Why was there a need to make an issue out of just a statement made by Terry? Well, now that Gerrad has said he would like Barry to join Liverpool, will you guys make a big issue out of that too? I guess not. Its a known fact that Chelsea's success has not been taken very well by all the other clubs in the premier league. But the truth is, every club in the premier league wants to be owned by millionaire owner. The fact that Moyes is screaming for a new wealthy owner proves that. And just because Chelsea managed to do something that everybody else was craving for, doesnt make them a bad club. Get real you guys....

And one more thing, out of the 4 teams in this years Champions League semi finals, which team do you think were better? I am sure a lot of you Chelsea haters wouldnt say this, but the fact is, Chelsea deserved to beat Barcelona and deserved to be in that final. A final where ManUtd were taught a lesson. A lesson which Chelsea handled pretty well until the refeeree decided to show up....

So all you Chelsea haters, stay away. There is a lot more you guys will hear from Chelsea, and it wont be a music that you would wanna hear....
    Go Blues Go!!!!!!!
