Chairman Barrie Hubbard has revealed that Dave Allen was not the only man in the running to become Chesterfield's new owner.

Former Sheffield Wednesday chairman Allen, a long-time friend of Hubbard, became the Spireites' majority shareholder last week after investing around £6million in the League Two club.

Hubbard said: "There were others interested and they all seemed serious at the outset.

"However, when it came down to the nitty gritty the others were blown away. Dave has been the only one for quite a time now."
