Roberto Martinez looks set to ask Swansea for permission to speak to Celtic over their managerial vacancy after apparently expressing interest in the post.
Swansea turned down an initial request from Celtic but chairman Huw Jenkins admitted he would not stand in Martinez's way if the Spaniard insisted on talks.
The 35-year-old appears destined to do so when he returns from holiday on Wednesday and said in the Scottish Daily Express: "Managing Celtic is one of the top jobs in European football. Any young, aspiring manager with ambition would be interested in a job like that.
"It gives you the chance of being involved in Champions League football and the opportunity to win silverware every season in Scotland. Anyone would be interested in a job like this. However, everything would have to be sorted with Swansea first."
Celtic are expected to face stiff competition from Wigan, though, whose manager Steve Bruce is on the brink of a move to Sunderland. Martinez spent six years with Wigan as a player and chairman Dave Whelan is keen to speak to him about any possible vacancy.
"Roberto would be near the top of any list we formulate," he told the Telegraph.

maybe you in your obvious wisdom have heard of him before now, but i haven't. i dont think he's a good choice for our manager, simple as that. he's currently at swansea who ended up 8th in the championship, so why are we looking at him?? there are better candidates for the job out there and at 35 I would worry about his experience, or lack of it. there is no way that he is ready to move here and take charge of a celtic team who have to go through two champs league qualifiers.
the underwear mention was meant to be a joke, it was obviously way over your head. i expected better from a celtic fan. if you have something constructive to say then i'm waiting. if not shut the @#$% up.
