Hamilton voted F1's top playboy of all time.

Wed 02 Jul, 10:22 AM

Lewis Hamilton is the top F1 playboy of all time, fans reckon, but only third-best in terms of driving ability...

Lewis Hamilton has been voted Formula 1's number one playboy of all time, in a revelation that will lend further ammunition to those critics who claim the young star is letting his eye slip away from the ball with his increasing number of extra-curricular pleasures.

The McLaren-Mercedes ace has endured a frustrating and fruitless time of things of late, failing to score in either Montreal or Magny-Cours and committing a series of errors that have undermined his championship charge, and handed the initiative firmly back over to chief rivals Ferrari.

This slump in form has been blamed in some quarters on his ever-growing number of PR and showbiz appearances, and a string of dates with beautiful and glamorous women, including supermodel Naomi Campbell, singer and TV presenter Dannii Minogue, Miss World runner-up Vivian Burkhardt and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

Fellow Brit David Coulthard has warned Hamilton against burning the candle at both ends [see separate story - click here], and now the results of a poll conducted by Nuts TV Sports News reveal the 23-year-old is considered by F1 supporters to be the sport's ultimate playboy, living the glamorous champagne lifestyle to the full.

"Lewis is a real hero for our viewers," remarked Nuts TV director of programming Joe Talbot. "He's a star on the track, and after pulling a Pussycat Doll, obviously a star with the women too. No wonder he is one of the top sports idols of recent years.

"Formula 1 has a long tradition of men who are really 'living the dream', so as long as he keeps up the hard work behind the wheel he shouldn't be embarrassed that F1 fans think he is the ultimate playboy."

Hamilton topped the poll in no fewer than three categories - success with women, champagne lifestyle and sense of style - with others featuring strongly including James Hunt, Sir Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna, Eddie Irvine, Nigel Mansell, Jenson Button and Coulthard.

The poll also revealed that fans reckon there are fewer personalities in the sport nowadays than there have been in the past, with the top five drivers voted for in the 'sense of humour' category - Hunt, Stewart, Mansell, Irvine and Damon Hill - having already retired.

Hamilton fared slightly less well, meanwhile, when rated on driving ability, coming in third behind runaway winner Michael Schumacher on 42 per cent and Senna in second spot, with Stewart and Mansell completing the top five.

1. Michael Schumacher

  2. I have to agree entirely with some of the earlier comments. James Hunt re-defined the playboy lifestyle. How he had the energy to drive - let alone win - after a pre-race night of clubbing, girls and booze (and allegedly other substances) beggars belief. Didn't he once boast that sex was the breakfast of champions? As with so many 'best of all time' polls, this one is dominated by those who are fresh in the public conscience.

  3. ok... let me get this straight... there is actually a sports news called N.U.T.S.?? and they conducted a poll?? and hamilton won as playboy?? this is a joke, right?? just another example of the british wit?? i mean, maybe he actually won for 'playing' like a boy?? maybe he has success with girls 'playing' women?? and maybe they're talking about his sense of style in being dressed by someone else?? sheez, gotta admit, the british do have a dry wit, i mean i can't imagine that anybody would actually waste time voting for a poll conducted by a bunch at N.U.T.S... besides, everyone can see that hamilton is still so wet behind the ears, that's the only place he actually is...

  4. Hey geraldjenkins, let's give tetris a break. It's an old game, but it did start a lot of "old" gamers when our PCs were really slow, like some drivers I know. The is a JOKE!

  5. yeah the headline failed to add 'by Ron Dennis' at the end.
James Hunt is by far and above the playboy of them all..
what's Lewis do with them for a night out..show them his playstation??
    at best he's a kid..
Once he can down a scotch and he's been through a couple of Miss World's he may only just begin to be compared to Mr. Hunt.
Hamilton has the appeal of tetris.

  6. What a load of twaddle..

Hamilton, 3rd greatest Driver, greatest play boy... dont make me laugh.

He is tallented no doubt but he has yet to do anything but lose the world championship and I havent seen him drive any cars full of hookers into any swimming pools yet. But maybe your dad crashing your GT at 30mph and going on a date with a fit bird counts as playboy these days ?

  7. I have to agree with Nxxx. Anytime someone speaks of Jim Clark who knew him directly, speak of him with awe. And from an American standpoint, Mario Andretti and Dan Gurney would also need to be considered, though they are often discounted.

  8. Wot? No Jim Clark?
    Driving Skills? Definitely first.
Success with women? Ok, not brilliant, as far as we know.
Champagne? Again, way down the list, as far as we know.
Humour? What else would you call beating seven litre Holman and Moody Galaxies with a Lotus Cortina?
Style? Only in a car or when farming, as far as we know.

  9. What a load of @#$%! Anybody heard of James Hunt?

  10. Go Lewis!! Live the dream, but just remember to focus your attention where it counts and do your best talking on the track.
