Cecil Content With Eclipse Duo

Wed 02 Jul, 06:09 PM

Trainer Henry Cecil will be put in a difficult position if there is a change in the weather ahead of Saturday's Coral-Eclipse at Sandown, where he saddles two leading prospects.

There is little to split Phoenix Tower and Multidimensional in the betting at 7-2 and 4-1 respectively with the sponsors.

But while Phoenix Tower prefers the ground riding fast, Multidimensional likes to dig his toe in a little.

Ted Durcan has elected to ride Phoenix Tower, who was second to Duke Of Marmalade in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot - unlike in the Earl of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket, where the Irishman picked his stablemate and found himself beaten by more than three lengths.

The pair tuned up for their weekend engagement with a spin on Tuesday morning.

"Both Phoenix Tower and Multidimensional seem in very good form. Hopefully, both will run really well on Saturday," the trainer told his stable website, www.henrycecil.com.

"You always have respect for your opposition, but we are not going there without a chance. I wouldn't want it too soft for Phoenix Tower and wouldn't want it too quick for Multidimensional."

The going is officially good to firm at this stage.

The ride on Multidimensional goes to Tom Queally, who will blank out memories of a nasty moment at Lingfield on Tuesday night.

Cecil could nearly have been forced to look elsewhere as Queally, who was aboard the Mark Tompkins-trained debutant Royal Acclaim in a low-key maiden at the Surrey course, was sent spinning down onto the Polytrack after the filly went wrong turning around the final bend.

"I'm sore and a bit swollen but just about OK," said Queally.

"It was quite a bad fall and I didn't ride on Wednesday but hopefully I'll be back on Thursday."

Multidimensional got even closer to a Royal Ascot victory than Phoenix Tower and was only caught by Macarthur in the final strides of the Hardwicke Stakes.

"I've ridden in a good few Group One races, I've never won one and Multidimensional looks to have a decent chance," Queally added.

"We have been very happy with his work and I sat on him the other day.

"I won on Phoenix Tower at Newmarket earlier in the season and as long as we get a bit of luck, the stable has two good chances."

Coral saw money for Pipedreamer, who was their biggest mover from 11-2 to 5-1.

Last year's Cambridgeshire winner, trained by John Gosden, has finished close to Phoenix Tower on two occasions this season.

He was half a length behind in the Earl of Sefton but only a short head in arrears at Ascot, where the pair were put in their place by Duke Of Marmalade.

"John Gosden has stated that he does not think there is much between his charge and Phoenix Tower and punters clearly agree, and have been backing the bigger priced horse accordingly," said David Stevens, spokesman for the Barking-based bookmakers.
