Spurs And Villa In Bentley Battle

Wed 02 Jul, 08:09 AM

Tottenham and Aston Villa are leading the chase for want-away Blackburn winger David Bentley.

Spurs boss Juande Ramos has turned his attention to England wideman Bentley after failing to prise Diego Capel from his former club Sevilla.

And he could have a joker in his pack compared to Villa's package as he is prepared to offer cash plus Aaron Lennon for the 23-year-old.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill is all-but resigned to losing the services of his skipper Gareth Barry this summer, but will be armed with the millions from his sale and sees Bentley as an ideal replacement due to his set-piece skills.

New Rovers boss Paul Ince is desperate to keep Bentley and star striker Roque Santa Cruz at Ewood Park this summer.

But the former Arsenal winger has gone on record to say he wants to leave Lancashire for a new challenge.

  2. Love all this b@tching, take note all you Arsenal Chelsea and Liverpool fans, you are bigger clubs granted, and Spurs may have won only the League cup!! but its one more piece of silverware than the rest of you achieved!! as much as I hate Man U it made me chuckle seeing the rest of you millionaire whingers get nothing!!

  3. If Bentley goes it will probably be to Tottenham as they are always willing to pay more than players are worth. Blackburn survived after the losses of Duff and Bellamy, they looked great in the Blackburn team but never reached the same heights afterwards.

  4. Haha
dean557, that's what Spurs' fan are, unrealistic

  5. Garyholdstock - how deluded are you? you reckon spurs are bigger than Villa & Rovers put together yet they couln't even finish in the top half of the table!! you say they are "on the rise". thats because if they go any lower they will be relegated. You dig at Blackburn for spending millions to win the Premier League when Spurs are trying to do the same with pathetic results. As for "have they done anything since, I think not" you conveniently forget them beating Spurs in the 2002 Worthington cup final!! Get real

  6. Wouldn't be suprised if he stays at Blackburn. I reckon he thought one of the big boys would come in for him because he thinks he is better than he is. If he signs for a team not in europe he will be shown to be a greedy hypocrite

  7. Spurs are a bigger club than Villa and Blackburn put together, under Ramos they will achieve great things and adding Bentley to the already promising bunch of players will just add to that. Villa will be nothing without Barry and as for Blackburn, they were a 1 season wonder when Jack Walker spent millions - have they done anything since ? I think not. You know it makes sense Bentley join a team on the rise.

  8. Have just seen the details of Spurs bid - £8M plus Lennon. For Bentley??? Are they crazy? If I was in charge at Blackburn it would have to be AT LEAST £15M plus Lennon. Blackburn would be bonkers to give Bentley away for such a silly offer.

  9. Why on earth would the future England captain ever want to go to either Villa or Spurs? He is already with a club AT LEAST their equal, Mark Hughes has seen to that.

  10. um did villa qualify for Europe and win a trophy last year??? please remind me i can't quite remember???

  11. Oh. Almost Forget. If I were the player, I would play for villa, rather than Spurs

  12. Spurs is a big club? HaHahahaha Good One!!!
I have to agree with Eto's. Spurs is a mid-table club.
Spurs never will be a big club like Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal
Why Spurs' board keep wasting their money? They keep investing money, what did they get?
Even Arsenal spent less money than Spurs on Transfers Market, but did a lot better than Spurs. Not to mention the others big fours
Spurs never going to win champion, will never play in Champions League.

From Sam, on Wed 2 Jul 8:51AM
  13. Spurs not a big club mmm? Luka Modric,Uefa cup, great prospects this season unlike a Barryless Villa.Wonder who David Bentley(Spurs supporter as a youngster) will opt for?!

  14. Why would Bentley want to go to Spurs???? He should go to a big club or at least to a club that finished in the top half of the table.... Lets face it Spurs are NOT a big club their fans think it is!

  15. well if a player states he dosn't want to play for you and wants to leave let him ,i can't see the point of making him stay because he won't give 100% the spurs offer is interesting if correct.Let him go for the best price possible the team isn't just about him .

From TOM, on Wed 2 Jul 6:59AM
  16. there both teams at the same level as blackburn, why go to either?!

From Dave G, on Wed 2 Jul 4:08AM
