Serie A - Milan 'priced out' of Adebayor move

Eurosport - Wed, 02 Jul 16:13:00 2008

Milan accept they have been priced out of a deal for Emmanuel Adebayor by Arsenal's "impossible" valuation of the player.

2007-2008 Arsenal Emmanuel Adebayor - 0

The Togo international's agent has defended his player against accusations of greediness, describing him as a "humble kid from the street" who is "in love" with Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger has sent a clear message that he has no intentions of letting Adebayor, or anyone else for that matter, hold the club to ransom over excessive wage demands.

Nevertheless, the Arsenal manager also knows there is no value in keeping an unsettled player whose focus is on something other than mounting a sustained title challenge next season.

According to Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani, the Gunners are not willing to accept anything less than what they consider full market value for Adebayor, plucked from Monaco in a £7 million deal 18 months ago and who smashed 30 goals last season.

"The request for 45 million euros (£35.8 million) by Arsenal is an impossible request," Galliani said on the Italian club's website.

Barcelona are also said to be in the hunt for the Togo forward, with president Joan Laporta looking to secure a big-name signing ahead of the club's referendum this weekend.

  1. Well as a die hard fan of the Arsenal I think it would be wise to sell any player that is not committed 100% to the club. Adebayor had a good season but there are many great strikers out there that would be cheaper to buy and would do as well up front for us. I say sell Wenger

  2. I advise Arsene Wenger to accept 30m for Ade. Or you think he will score another 30 goals come 08/09. Don't end up regreting not selling him. Ade is unsettled already. His ming is no longer at the club, so how do you think he will commit to score more goals. Its better you sell now or regret later. If you know the wage he is demanding is beyond what the club can pay, just lower to price to 30m and sell him, even to your fiercest rival - Chelsea. Use the money to buy one big holding midfielder and one big defender.

  3. Adebayor is right to demand the same salary as what Henry would be expected to recieve at Arsenal if he was to return. Why shouldnt he? he is expected to do the same job and more! Also, Arsenal need to break the bank to keep and buy players. Tickets are expensive more so at Arsenal and yet we pay to watch the youth team week in week out! Wengers comments about the milan game costing us our season cos it made our players available to the world well excuse me mr possessive wenger what do you expect, players like to go to other clubs their not your children! Wenger is a weak willed manager who has failed three years in a row, small squad equals more failure. kick him out!

  6. i agreed with fayofizzle, i'm a die hard Barca's fan does not keen to see him in BArca's kit. yes he is having a good season bcoz positioned infront of the like of fabregas, not bcoz he is a super hitman.. i rather go all the way with David Villa than paying rediculuos money to Gunners for Ade who?

  7. am an arsenal fan fink adebayor is just okay there is nothing fantastic about him, its the beautyful midfield that helps him, he had a good season good for him but out of 10 chances adebayor misses 6 his is not worth 35 million never..

  13. I'm an Arsenal fan and I wouldn't even value him at £35m...... certainly not after a single season at the top of his game anyway.....
I thought Shevchenko going to Chelsea for £30m at 29 was just pure stupidity too.

  17. adebayor is not a big name! he just had one good season and that was largely because of his supporting cast. apart from a few nice goals, others were spoon fed to him. he will continue to do well if he stays within arsenal's system and should realize this before he squanders his career. GUNNER FOR LIFE
