Earlier this week, perhaps because Formula One is in a rare news trough, a report in the newspaper Diario AS caused an international stir.
The Spanish publication named September 11 2009 as the date on which Fernando Alonso will – perhaps - be unveiled as a Ferrari driver for the next five years.
But also in the report was the suggestion that the Italian team may be planning a wholesale change, with Sebastian Vettel also in its sights.
The Vettel element of the story was picked up by Germany's major daily Bild, adding that Bernie Ecclestone is also keen to see the 21-year-old in a red car but that it might not happen for contractual reasons until 2011.
Red Bull's Christian Horner said: "Bernie is sort of like Sebastian's secret manager. He likes him very much and watches out for him.
"But why would Sebastian want to leave us? At the moment we're at the front and Ferrari are not," the team boss added.

the hamster slapping continues
The dwarf should mind his own business
Its not a matter whether a team is in front, its the tradition which the team upholds....
@Catalin - Michael Schumacher raced for Ferrari in 1996, Ferrari didn't have the best nor competitive cars. If Vettel moved to Ferrari it with would be like 1996 all over again.
Vettel should lease cars and race for himself. He's a german and a good driver too! He would be the first owner-driver in F1. How cool would that be, even Michael S. would take notice! Michael C.
don't ever forget that B''s interest is in how much money he can make from the 'sport', not in the sport itself, so he will continue to re-arrange the deck chairs in order to sell more of them even as the sport itself sinks towards oblivion as a spectacle of racing at the highest level
Geeeesh every time someone shows a glimmer of talent Bernie pipes up and says it would be nice to see them at Ferrari, if Bernie had his way im sure half the grid would be full of Ferrari's occupied by the drivers he has said that about.....
of coursethat midget wants to see him at ferrari. the teams been rubbish this season and he can't bear the thought of losing again next year
Sebastian will go to Ferrari, but there is still a lot of things to do by Ferrari before Sebastian will arrive there...improve performance, for one...he will join Ferrari in two years time...
