Joey Barton was back at Newcastle for the first time since he was told to stay away from the training ground by Alan Shearer.
The 26-year-old turned up for the first day of pre-season training at the club's Darsley Park headquarters at 9.47am as he and his team-mates began preparations for the new campaign.
Barton was told to stay away after a stand-up row with then boss Shearer in the wake of his sending-off at Liverpool on May 3, an offence which ruled him out of the final three games of the Premier League season.
His future remains a matter of some speculation with the club certain to move on many of their high earners as they prepare for life in the Championship.
Chris Hughton and the remaining members of the coaching staff will work with the players before heading off for a training camp in Ireland on Sunday.
Five international players - Damien Duff, Sebastien Bassong, Jonas Gutierrez, Geremi and Xisco - have been given extra time because of their exertions with their countries since the end of last season, while Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Claudio Cacapa, Peter Lovenkrands, David Edgar and Ignacio Gonzalez are all now out of contract.

re comment 50, mackems can not afford sat navs even if they could they would'nt know how to use it
man city are certainly not a huge club BUT we do get 45000 gates regularly.
as far as having an inferiority complex NO WAY.. I have supported them since 74 and will continue to do so.. and YES i was there in the 3rd division.
barton is a time bomb and an absolute prikk. since he ruined the lads tandys career and attacked the everton fan (kid) for me it was over.. he had one decent season for us but is a jackass. I am shocked newcastle bought him but also happy we got over 5million for this @#$%.
In all honesty I hope you guys get back soon and dont spiral out of control like we did
Guess you must have a bit of an inferiority complex being a Man City fan 'Mike' pretty unavoidable really considering you live in a city where the main football team is adored as far as Japan.I was in a sports shop in OZ recently, the only English merchandise on display were Man U tops. You'll always have 'little pe nis syndrome supporting them and if it takes s punking £100 million every transfer window for the next century your team still will not achieve what they have, must be a bit like being a scouser but supporting Everton.Your team is s hit and always will be man, have a nice day
man city still a small club 20.000 gate ha ha
impactclean.....i think we have to see who the new owners are(if any),new manager, all this doom and gloom about being in the doldrums, further relegation, what about your lot??if brucie does not get his "harrods signings" on board,i can see the mackems going down with the same players as last season!
The Toon now face many years in the doldrums, perhaps further relegation.Such is the Toon dedication, mind you they have nowhere else to go,that, they will continue to pour their cash into this big white elephant.
The owners can now reap the full benefit of not having to pay premiership wages knowing full well the Toon will continue to support no matter what the results.I mean what is the point of raising the game when you are guaranteed a full house every week.
Why are we pay all these flops loads of money they don't merit to sit in the sun and chat about which club they want to attempt to play for next sort your life out fat man ashley and sell up quickly and give us some hope for the future.
(Comment) 13 there's a lot of confused mackems out there must be the weather could be the sat nav.
This man should be told to stay away from SJP.
mike...why dont you just crawl back under your stone.
Mike - Ever thought of working for the Northumbria Tourist Office?
Yeh but are you a mancy gay boy or not
So Mikey, you are a Man City fan with no regard for the Toon at all but you like to spend a fair share of your time on our pages dishing out abuse. Is that because you get off on the abuse you get back from men. Are you a sausage jocky then. We won't judge you, we just want to know what it is you want so we can understand you better, mammy's little sailor.
upthevilla,,,,,f..k off yam yam!! mike...would rather listen to the mackems whinging than this manc clown!! p.s why not go on the inbreeds pages and talk about living in the shadow of a better supported club and your experiences in the 3rd division!
ha ha!
you are funny mikey boy!
as i said cameron pooofs and sailors
which are you because you dont look much like a sailor to me now shut up and keep sucking
Tell me mike, when were the great man city in the THIRD division again!
You are embarrassing your football club boy; now walk on child.
mike:
that would be laughing stock; get yourself to school child.
newcastle are finished:FACT
comment 38, I'll have to take your word for that Mikey boy
