Joey Barton was back at Newcastle for the first time since he was told to stay away from the training ground by Alan Shearer.
The 26-year-old turned up for the first day of pre-season training at the club's Darsley Park headquarters at 9.47am as he and his team-mates began preparations for the new campaign.
Barton was told to stay away after a stand-up row with then boss Shearer in the wake of his sending-off at Liverpool on May 3, an offence which ruled him out of the final three games of the Premier League season.
His future remains a matter of some speculation with the club certain to move on many of their high earners as they prepare for life in the Championship.
Chris Hughton and the remaining members of the coaching staff will work with the players before heading off for a training camp in Ireland on Sunday.
Five international players - Damien Duff, Sebastien Bassong, Jonas Gutierrez, Geremi and Xisco - have been given extra time because of their exertions with their countries since the end of last season, while Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Claudio Cacapa, Peter Lovenkrands, David Edgar and Ignacio Gonzalez are all now out of contract.

that comment is for the laurel and hardy man city 'fans' btw!
i heard even the man from Del Monte said no to your pathetic lot; even a quarter of a million per week can't be tempting enough for Samuel either! Now THAT is funny!
upthevilla
what is your fascination with our small club; why are you continually going out of your way to find us, and to post stuff we've heard a million times before? I notice you very, very, very rarely post anything on the villa pages, but then again, neither does anybody else!
My friend recommended me a very interesting place == AgelessFriends @ com == It's a nice and free place for Younger Women and Older Men, or Older Women and Younger Men, to interact with each other. You may wanna check it out.
difference between the toon and man city is at least we stand chance of winning something this year all you will get is a sacked manager after 12 games watch and weep
Why dont you give him just one more chance,Kevin likes him. He's just misunderstood, there is not a lot of difference between a football and someones head, anyone could make the same mistake, besides every body likes him at nufc thats why he's back in the squad, you will need a bit of thuggery in the championship, and to be sure,he will help you into the first league. He's probably sorted shearer with a @#$% in the eye,and promised to break a few legs on the way,so just be patient. He will come good.
andrew & philippe d, how long did Batty and Keane spend in jail. How many defencless teenagers did they attack on drunken nights out. How many cigar buts did they stump out on the academy players faces. How many of their team mates did they attack and continue to put the boot in when they lay unconceous on the floor, need I go on.
Batty and Keane were aggressive players but mixed with the best of them. Barton is a coward and will only attack those he knows are a sure thing.
I think we all know that and yet some people are still impressed with the bloke. All I can advise is you get a petision together to try to get him at your clubs where he will be loved, admired and cherished regardless.
newcastle are finiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiished... still laughing my cockerel off about it..
