Derby manager Nigel Clough is set to make a renewed bid to to sign Shaun Barker and John Brayford.

Clough (pictured) has already had bids rejected for the pair by Blackpool and Crewe respectively and, in Barker's case, has been told to raise his offer to closer to £1 million.

But with the Rams due to receive £500,000 for the sale of Tyrone Mears to Burnley and striker Emanuel Villa also leaving Pride Park, Clough has more funds at his disposal and is hoping he can snare his targets.

"We are still talking (to Blackpool) and, hopefully, we will be going back in the next few days," he told the Derby Telegraph.

"We have made offers for both players (Barker and Brayford), which have been rejected, so we are in the process of drawing up fresh offers which will go in as soon as we can."

  1. we need to have faith in the man, barker looks a really solid defender and wouldn't be a gamble coming from a championship club, croft stood out for norwich whenever i saw him play and, the other lads won't get in the team unless they show that they're capable of stepping up. its nice to see us trying to find gems that can be polished rather than buying so-called finished articles that turn out to be absolute @#$%!!!!

  2. I just hope he knows what he's doing signing this lot, I know its all about slow and steady and I have no problem with that, I also know in theory he's in for the long haul, i.e. his 10 year plan, just dont fancy joining Southampton in Div 1 next season if this 'new breed' dont cut it. Youth, yes every time, but with a good blend of experience!!
